Very disappointing top to bottom. It’s like a marketing manager decided to open a restaurant and bar. We first enter and are given some attitude for not having reservations, when the place has plenty of seating available. In retrospect, this was probably an attempt to build hype and anticipation. This became the theme of the night.
The eclectic menu and decor seems like it could be great, a nod to nostalgia in the former location of the familial Stacks Restaurant, but the reality comes up short. The service was scatter shot— 7 different people came by and failed to serve anything on time. (1) The cocktails came after the food. (2) After waiting over 30 minutes and asking for our food, it came out as if it had been left forgotten until then. (3) We had to wait for our utensils after being served our food.
Our medium-rare wagyu steak frites was over cooked and dry. Worse, it was tiny, like it was actually an off-cut trimming and not the steak. The shredded duck carbonara could be easily replicated at home in a microwave. The Harvester was a competent gin fizz, but unremarkable. The Hat Trick was one note — smokey.
One of the very apologetic wait staff informed us unprompted that we would be given a discount for these issues, which was kind, however no manager ever made themselves known.
I am left with the impression that the mistakes were made before the doors ever opened as the menu is more than they can deliver. Maybe it was the delays and setbacks from lockdowns that have strained their budget, but they should focus on a smaller more modest gastropub offering rather than shortchanging and spurning customers.
Mistakes happen and that’s ok, however there’s no excuse for the consistent lack of quality for the price, especially with so many great...
Read moreCozy and cute spot for tasty American fare! I visited Hazie’s for a Saturday morning brunch on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the space was! The restaurant is spacious and extremely cozy, with ample seating and sunlight. The staff was remarkably friendly, cheerful, and attentive — they joked around with us, noticed immediately when we finished eating and boxed up our food / cleared plates, and were just all around an absolute delight. The food was also very tasty, although I think I’d be excited to come back for lunch / dinner vs. brunch and try from a more expansive (and more vegetarian-friendly) menu. I got their mushroom frittata, which was delicious; it was absolutely packed with mushroom, spinach, and leek, and it came topped with a generous spread of melty goat cheese and pico de gallo. I loved the pop of freshness from the pico — it was much needed to cut through how dense and heavy the frittata was otherwise. It also came with four slices of toast, although they were a smidge too buttery. My partner got their burger with avocado and a side salad and was also very impressed; he commented it was likely a 90th percentile burger for him. It was quite sizeable and cooked at a perfect medium (as he had ordered it), and I appreciated that they put all the tomatoes and pickles on the side so they didn’t get the burger all soggy. The salad was very fresh and quite tasty as well, and was a refreshing break between bites of burger (or, for...
Read moreWe had a reservation (for two) and were seated right away. It was busy, but the timing of the server & kitchen was just right. We shared the Thai watermelon salad and ahi poke, which was served on crispy wonton chips. The watermelon salad was really refreshing; the touch of heat from the slivers of pepper in the dressing was perfect---and I'm normally a wuss when it comes to spiciness. This salad was filling (for me). The ahi poke was served on 3 crispy wonton chips. The topping was a little too heavy for the wontons, but it was delicious. My dude had the burger, which he said was decent, but not what he'd recommend ordering off the menu. He said the bun overpowered the burger, but perhaps the real issue was that the burger/meat wasn't flavorful enough to be the star...Nonetheless, he ate all but one bite of it, plus devoured the large serving of fries. We finished with an espresso and the strawberry shortcake, which was a more traditional version with biscuits instead of angel food cake or a light white cake. It was good, though not as many strawberries as I would have liked, given the thickness of the biscuit. I'll eat here again, but I'll try the...
