I love all of Joe's ice cream flavors, my wife and children are partial to having theirs in Sugar Cones, but I just like a cup to hold it in. (Somehow, I'm always finished before those cone eaters - it must be with the way I can get myself a bigger spoonful than their tongues can provide? :-)) So, here's the funny part: they added to their menu and started serving more variations of burgers and hot dogs, I finally tried the burgers for the first time about two years ago and IMHO, the burgers are fantastic, much tastier and juicier than ANY their local competition on Geary Blvd. (I used to like these other places until Joe's opened up with the new Grill Menu when they re-opened at their new location) Their very tasty beef is ground there every day and it tastes so fresh. Now I take my family go there more often - not just for a weekly ice cream, but we have burger or a hot dog pr whatever they've dreamed up new on the menu, every so often, too. Their customer service is fantastic, always. Whoever is serving you has a patient smile, always willing to let us try a sample before we make a selection, and I was SO grateful a couple of months ago when we came in just before closing time for the Grill side, and when I asked them if I was too late, they vigorously shook their heads and said it's not a problem - go right ahead! Our family of four had been out busy all day and we were starving, so, thank goodness for the staff's willingness to accommodate us. (Note: I'm not recommending you go to the Grill part at closing time, but in an emergency - they'll be there for you!) :-) One more thing, you know they work hard behind that ice cream counter, because all the pople working there have the most toned upper arms you'll ever see. Scooping ice cream constantly must give them an amazing upper...
Read moreI have been here many times since I was in middle school and before they moved here. The original location was across the street, it was like an old school diner with bar seating that made you feel like home. I mainly come here for their homemade ice cream usually when I am in the area and where I am craving for some ice cream. They have many delicious and unique flavors to choose from. Also they have other options like shakes, sundaes, dipped cones, add on toppings and much more. One side of the shop is for ice cream and the other half is for the grill and foods. The food they offer here are delicious and worth the try such as burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads, hot dogs nd much more. Everything is made to order which is a plus and I do not mind the wait since I am a very patient person. Seating is available both in the interior and outdoor patio where you can enjoy and relax. The staffs here are very welcoming, well trained and understanding where I had never encountered an issue during any of my visits. I definitely recommend this place to anyone craving for ice cream, if you are willing to try something new or if you just so happen to be in the area. I definitely will be back to tryout the other delicious options they...
Read moreTwo stars sigh. I liked Joe's; I learned about green-tea ice-cream when the shop was across Geary decades ago. Joe's ice-cream's still delicious.
Some sushi-joints will serve nigiri with a respectful fish-to-rice ratio, but will chisel customers with really rice-y rolls.
For Loma Prieta's Thirtieth, I asked for a large milk-shake, today, and watched a well-experienced tech scoop less ice-cream than I thought sufficient for a large & rich shake.
From the mixer with fluidity consistent with mine earlier estimation, a not-at-all-large pour did not fill a not-at-all large cup.
Into mine hands passed the shake & a big-bore paper-wrapped paper straw (!); into his, six dollars... I accepted a nickel in changed with some consideration.
Folks, Joe's ice-cream's still delicious; I may return for a big tub of my favourite flavour, but not for another milky more-slosh than shake.
Joe's has my sympathy; but that sympathy's displaced mine enthusiasm. The still-living -- last time I checked -- memory of Joe Politz deserves, I think, a...
