DO NOT COME HERE IF YOUR POC: I came to K& L Wine seeking a bottle of rice wine and plus some ppl I know recommended this place. When I walked in the building, I was immediately asked if I had anything to pick up, which I declined. I asked the gentleman at the cashier if they had any rice wine. He began huffing and rolling his eyes and told me they only have sake and had this energy to not want to help me at all. I walked to the back where the fridge was and spotted the guard walking towards the front but nodding his head to something that was behind me as if the person up front was signaling him to watch out for me.
I ignored it and continued shopping. While I was in the fridge looking at sake, the guard was about a few feet watching me but not anyone else but just me. I left the sake and looked at the tequila. I saw something that I wanted but needed to get a basket because I wanted to get a few bottles of wine. I picked up a bottle and placed it at the front and asked where the baskets were and were told where they were. When I went back to place the bottle in the basket, one of the other cashiers told me they will hold on to it. I declined and said I will place it in my basket because I'm still shopping. He insisted that he keep it at the front with him. I said okay and walked towards the red wine area. As I'm in the wine area, two of the staff (1 female and an older man) were around watching me and the guard a row behind,.. I felt sick to my stomach and racially profiled because I was a black man trying to spend my money in this establishment. I felt gross and I left. Not a moment or more, I stepped foot out the door and heard “were good!” SO FREAKING DISGUSTING AND I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. This place needs some training on how to treat customers, especially people of...

Review:
Navigating the aisles of K&L Wine Merchants in Redwood City feels a bit like being a kid in a candy store, but for adults with a penchant for fine wines and spirits. Situated on 3005 El Camino Real, this store has become my go-to sanctuary when the call of bourbons, ryes, and whiskies beckons. And let's face it, it beckons quite often!
Their selection is a masterclass in variety and quality. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a curious beginner, there's something here to tickle your palate. And if you're anything like me, with a particular fondness for bourbons, then you're in for a treat. Each bottle feels like an invitation to embark on a unique taste journey, and I've embarked on quite a few thanks to K&L.
However, every rose has its thorn. The online ordering system can sometimes feel like it's aged a bit too long in the barrel. Fulfillment takes its sweet time, often leading me to visit the store directly. It's a good excuse to browse their shelves, but a quicker online process would be the cherry (or should I say, the 'aged cherry') on top.
A shout-out to the San Francisco location as well. It's more expansive, offering an even broader array of choices. If the Redwood City store is a novella of fine spirits, the SF one is a full-fledged epic.
In sum, K&L Wine Merchants is a libation library that I'd recommend to anyone. My gentle feedback to the management: Let's speed up that online ordering, so we can toast to efficiency too! Until then, I'll see you in the aisles, fellow spirit enthusiasts. Cheers to K&L for keeping our glasses both full and...
Read moreThis store has a great selection of wine and spirits. The breadth of their wine selection looks staggering to me, but I shop here mainly for distilled spirits. The inventory they carry seems to be very carefully selected. I often find very interesting and unusual brands or limited edition bottles. I don't think I'd go anywhere else for rare or high-end stuff. In fact, you won't find many mainstream whiskey, brandy, etc. brands even carried here; the kinds of brands that most people tend to rattle off when they think that it will make them look like a person of refined taste, when all it really does is confirm they only know about the most common stuff. Perhaps most interestingly (for discerning consumers), you'll find quite a few "direct import" labels here that K&L has imported directly from the producer, and even some bottlings that they have...
