Kingbob, like Outta Sight Pizza II, is adjacent to Chinatown. Indeed, they are on the same block and same side of the street!
As its name suggests, Kingbob's specialty is kimbap, or Korean seaweed rice roll with choice of protein, plus julienned pickled vegetables and rice, freshly rolled to order. They are served sliced roughly half-inch thick, plus some spicy mayo.
I asked for recommendations, and ended up ordering "spicy pork" kimbap, and a bowl of fish cake soup. At this place, you sit down and they bring the stuff to you. When you finish, leave the empty plates and bowls and utensils on the table and they will clean up.
The fish cake soup was surprising. The "fish cake" was in the form of thin ribbons about an inch wide, and at first I thought it was tofu, but it was definitely pulverized and formed fish (Chinese food have "fish tofu" which was similar, but not thin like this). The soup is tasty, but it could have been.... Warmer? It was barely lukewarm.
Kimbap is of course, room temp, and even though I ordered "spicy pork", I didn't taste any spicy heat. On the other hand, the pickled vegetables and rice are tasty and healthy, though the roll slices may be a bit too large to enjoy in one bite, yet if you try to take it in two bites they fall apart (as they should). The different textures and tastes of ingredients are distinct and the mix in your mouth is quite good.
All in all, definitely worth a try, if you enjoy sushi and its variations. They also have fried chicken, among other stuff. Will go back and try...
Read moreExcellent, fresh kimbap at a very reasonable price.
Ordered the spicy pork and bulgogi rolls and they were made fresh for me (about 7 minutes to make both). I appreciate these weren’t pre made, and could taste the freshness of the warm meat and rice, cool cucumber and carrots, and the not soggy nor chewy nori. Both rolls were under $7 for eight pieces, which is awesome since I find that most places either are way pricier or give you much less. Both rolls also came with a spicy mayo which was nice but I found it unnecessary for the spicy pork, which wasn’t super spicy (even for a spice wimp like me) but was moist and had great flavor on its own. I also asked for hot sauce and they have what I think was sriracha.
They also have Korean snacks and drinks, as well as many other types of kimbap and KFC available.
Will definitely be back to try other items, what...
Read moreFirst time reviewing it was so good!!!! Ive never cared enough but this place is SOOOO good.. and its affordable!! It’s so hard to find a place that does good tteokbeokki but the red sauce thing here was exactly how it tasted in korea - and the perfect amount of spicy where its felt but not hard to eat!!! The tteok was well cooked and squishy. The kimbap is wonderful and looks soooo pretty. There are many choices including a vegetarian amount, and the amount for the price is probably the best in san francisco!! The guy who runs the place seems rly nice (i think he makes it to order). Theres a clean and big restroom. We went as four people and each of us only paid $10~$13 but we split 3 kimbap plates, one ramen, and...
