It’s been a very long time since I’ve been here. I was in the FiDi running errands and decided to get my lunch here to go.
I got the ebi katsu curry. I figured it’s the same price as the chicken katsu curry, so why not? The person who took my order was super nice. He asked if I wanted brown or white rice. I had that Patrick Star stare when Squidward asks him to place his order, but I snapped out of it when told I can do half/half. I placed my order and went to do my errands. My order was ready within the 15mins I was out.
The meal came with 3 huge pieces of friend shrimp, cabbage, pickled daikon, and rice. The portion of rice was perfect for the amount of shrimp. No bite was without rice. The shrimp itself was perfectly fried, super crunchy, and very meaty. The curry was good. I got it mild and it had a slight sweetness. The brown rice was soft. After pouring the curry and mixing the different rices, I couldn’t tell which was brown or white. I think I would get full brown rice next time.
After taxes and tip, it came out to around $20. I was ravenous so I ate the entire thing and was perfectly full. But I think I would be able to stretch a chicken or pork katsu curry in two meals, so that’s something to think about.
I think if you want traditional Japanese curry in the FiDi, then Muracci’s is the place to go. But definitely order before noon because that lunch rush is no joke. The wait can...

It's definitely a battle between Muracci's and JapaCurry... I might be leaning towards Muracci's (not sure why, based on instincts I guess), but JapaCurry is a close second for sure.
Muracci's has a really small store front, so there are limited seats available (I would say 10 or less). Most people just get take-out from here. If you get here around noon, don't be alarmed by the line. It may seem long, but it really doesn't take a long time, maybe 15 mins total from lining up to picking up your order. To expedite the process, a guy goes around the line to take your order, so you just have to pay when you get to the front of the line. After that, it takes about 2 minutes for them to have your order ready.
I ordered the Tonkatsu Curry, and it was amazing! First of all, the portion is just right - I left feeling satisfied, but not stuffed. The pork cutlet was perfect fried to its golden brown complexion. It was crispy and tender. Best part is that the breading never separated from the meat, thumbs up! As for the curry itself, it had a nice balance of saltiness, sweetness, and spiciness. I got mild hot, and that was spicy enough for me (although I can handle and enjoy eating spicy food). Putting the pork, curry, and rice together, it made for a perfect lunch, especially on a cold day as the curry does warm you up!
Would definitely be coming back...

I started going to Muraccis in early 2009. It’s always been in the same location, but it did used to have a few inside chairs. My coworkers and me would go religiously, 2-3 times a week on average for a few years.
My job would move in and out of the downtown area, but I would always look forward to going back to Muraccis. 15 years later and the food is still great, the service is awful.
They made a mistake one order and gave me an incorrect dish, I got 40% of what I ordered. No big deal, mistakes happen, surely they’d make it up to me in some small way on the next visit. A week later I return and explain what happened to the lady at the front counter, she calls to the manager in the kitchen. I’m just looking for something small. A free croquette, a small discount. The manager doesn’t do anything for me, says she’s stuck working and I can give them the last 4 of my credit card and they can look into it possibly, but makes no promises and makes no effort to act on this. She didn’t seem remorseful at all, had an annoyed and rushed tone of voice, or even come to the counter and get the last 4. At least show a tiny bit of emotion, come to the counter to talk for 20 seconds. I run a retail shop and this is how how you should handle...
