I really like Onigilly. I pass by it on my way to the bank and will sometimes treat myself to lunch there. Onigilly offers healthier versions of Japanese cuisine. The owners are a married couple who really put a lot of thought and care into their food.

The onigiri here is different from what you'll find elsewhere, and it's still delicious. My favorites are the shrimp tempura, salmon, and the shiitake mushroom. I usually get them in a bento combo, which comes with edamame. If I'm really hungry, I'll get the combo that comes with a side of chicken karaage, tamago, and edamame.

Curry was recently added to their menu, so I had to check it out. And I went during the middle of the thunderstorm, too. Worth it! Most Japanese curries are beef based, but theirs is vegan made with fruits and veggies. And it's really dark, which I've never seen before. The curry is slightly sweet, yet savory. I don't think it has the depth that you would get with meat curries, but I really appreciate that it is vegan. Many a times vegan substitutes aren't great, so it's nice to be able to get a vegan curry that doesn't skimp on the flavor. I would totally order it again. Frankly, I prefer this one over the Japanese curry place a few stores down.

This location still does takeout orders only. You can also order ahead on their...

Good spot to get quick and fast service in the FiDi.

I ordered through Ritual since they had a $5 off promo. The bento box set was completely sold out when I ordered, so I got an Edamame Set with 3 different onigiris: Snow Crab, Salmon, and Tempura Shrimp. The total cost was $13.90, and I was charged $9 after the discount. Some of the onigiri options are cheaper, but I just happened to pick 3 that had an extra cost.

The seaweed tasted a little soft and almost soggy (not crunchy at all). The tempura shrimp was great and perfectly crispy and tender. The other two onigiri were average. The size is pretty decent for each onigiri, but they are not very filling.

The place is small, and there was a long line when I got there (around 12pm). However, because I ordered on ritual, I was able to skip the line and get my food immediately. Overall, the food was pretty average but the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would order again through ritual of another promotion...

This place went downhill. Not only is it ridiculously expensive now (about $20 for a 1-person lunch) but also do they have zero food ethics.

Be aware they give you meat when you order something vegetarian or vegan (!)

First time, I gave them the benefit of the doubt when I found meat as part of my dish. So on a second chance, ordered a different item to make sure, of course all vegan, and I left extra notes on the online order that my company placed. What’s in the bowl? Meat again. They just did whatever they wanted with the order and did not double check with their customer. I understand if you’re out of something. But this is next level unacceptable.

I wish I could give zero stars. And now, I hope their business fails. No tasty food will ever make up for such bad business practice. ...

I wanted to try out this place for lunch as it was kind of like sushi (which I love) but is different. I got the Wakame Set which came with 2 on onigilly and a side of seaweed salad. I got the miso tuna which was pretty good. Not as much miso flavor as I had hoped. I also got the spicy bacon which was actually pretty spicy and packed with flavor. The seaweed salad was really good as well and I’m glad I got that set. Overall, it’s pretty much filling of your choice inside a rice ball (or triangle), but it’s pretty good. I think I still prefer sushi as this is mostly rice.

Best fast casual Japanese food in the city! Ever since visiting Japan at the beginning of last year, I haven’t been able to find any casual Japanese food I really like in California until this place. I got the custom bowl with eel, imitation crab, and teriyaki tofu for protein and a mixed base of salad and rice. It was super satisfying for dinner on a rainy day, and I felt full but not heavy. The portion size was just right, and the ingredients were fresh and yummy.
