Like many hotels in Downtown San Francisco, the Fitzgerald is an attractive building--though this one more inside than out--but it's maintained worse than any I remember staying at in the region. No one thing about this hotel was broken to the point of rage, but many little things started to add up.
There was really no hot bathwater; only lukewarm, which given I stayed during Winter, was not pleasant. The room did have a heater, but as it was merely the sort that radiated heat, without a fan to blow it out, it was not very efficient.
The hotel staff was unable to provide toothpaste or shaving accouterments, which have been standard at almost every other hotel I've been to; luckily the liquor store next-door sold toothpaste, but no razors or shaving cream that I could find.
Finally, there was a fairly unpleasant smell in the hotel room, maybe mildew, or body-odor, or both; mostly noticeable while I was in bed.
The best thing about this hotel is its location close to Union Square, so it might be worth staying at if it's the only option, but if possible, go with the King George Hotel or Beresford Arms...
Read moreDO NOT GO HERE. THEY STEAL AND OVERCHARGE YOU!!! WORST BAR EVER. I went here with a friend and we both had just one drink and paid separately. I had just 1 aperol spritz and when I go my receipt it said $12. But when I got home I realised I had been overcharged by $50 dollars!!! They must of mucked the bills up with another table or scammed me but I have tried calling, messaging, emailing them hundreds of times and they have not responded. I had a flight the next day so I could not go back to the bar and demand for my money back. This is the worst bar ever I can’t believe they have not responded to me. The service and staff are awful, I can’t believe they overcharged me $50 when I just had one drink. I was with just one friend and she had only 1 drink too so I don’t get how they managed to do it. It’s been a while now and they still haven’t got back to me. They never answer the phone, emails or anything. Honestly don’t go here they're so bad and it’s so frustrating because I was overcharged so much. Going here is honestly NOT...
Read moreMy friend and I were blatantly discriminated against in front of many bystanders. When I calmly asked the bartender who discriminated against us for her name so that we could inform the bar owner, she started yelling at us that we were harassing her after asking once. When we tried to speak to the other bartender about the incident he just walked away and ignored us and allowed the other bartender to yell at us. While we were trying to calmly explain the situation to the other bartender, the one who discriminated said she was calling the police on us and proceeded to do so. When the police arrived they were just as confused as I was and informed me that I need to reach out to the bar owner about being discriminated against. Never going back to this...
