Update 7/1/2023: The smog check for my Tacoma pick-up truck was due and I was in the neighborhood at Quality Tune-up on Fell St. Too bad their smog machine is broken and I went to the Pork Store because I knew they would be open early and I could sit down and find another smog check station. Although I wanted to try their other dishes, I often find myself ordering the same thing since everything taste better with country gravy. Biscuits and gravy it is. I mean, you wouldn't order biscuits and gravy and a cheeseburger?! That would be weird. In addition, their pork chops are just so darn good, it is hard to deviate. When I was taking photos of the beautiful biscuits and gravy, the young waitress recognized me from last time because of my Yelp photos. How funny. I've never had anyone recogize me before from my Yelp bisuits and gravy photos before. Regardless, the food was excellent. The chefs here know their brunch dishes. Better than their 16th St. location. Service was excellent. Good job everyone at the Pork Store. Updated 6/12/2022: Pork Store gets the Jeff H. award for best brunch spot on Haight St. The 2x pork chops were huge this time. Luck of the draw I guess. Last time, they were small. I arrived at 8:30am and no line! There's usually an hour wait if you come after 10am. My pork chops $14.50 were great. It had a smokey grill favor. Eggs were done perfectly and my hash browns weren't bad. The biscuits and gravy $4 were awesome. The gravy had lumps of meat in it. At these types of diners, I love sitting at the counter and watch my food get made. Service was excellent. Great job my friends at the Pork Store. Original review: Indoor dining 5/16/2021. Weekends are better with brunch! I love this location much more than their 16th St. location. The awesome waitresses are friendly and acts as though they are not at work here. The vibe is very relaxed. It reminds me of the diners I visited in the midwest where there's actual small talk between customers and waitstaff. There were tables available at 9am, but by 9:30am, the wait list was filling up. I had the pork store special with two pork chops. It comes with hash browns and eggs. I ordered gravy with my biscuits. The gravy is highly recommended. I soak the biscuits and then mix it up by dipping some of the pork chops in it. Sooooo good. Thanks Pork Store chefs and waitstaff for a terrific brunch! Now I'm...
Read moreBiscuits were misleading as hell...LOOKED hell delish when we were waiting to be seated but then when we actually sat down to fill our faces it was the blandest dough ever....But wait let's start at the beginning. I came on a Friday, 4th of July, so it was a bit more crowded than what I imagine a typical Friday. There's no reservation, you kinda form a line and wait to be seated. There was once waitress behind the bar working the breakfast bar seating and one on the floor serving the table. So yes service and seating does take a bit of time.
Once seated you are greeted to an immense menu with tons of breakfast and lunch options that all seem pleasing. This was a place I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted because I wanted it all! I ended up with the veggie sausage plate that came with two bland biscuits, a heaping amount of hash browns and yummy eggs that I added mushroom and tomato to. The veggie sausage was similar to the morning star maple sausage patties, so I liked them a lot and everything but the biscuits were equally enjoyable and filling. We also ordered a side of chicken apple sausage which was overcooked with no apple flavoring another unfortunate disappointment.
Overall LOADS of options so even if you don't like one thing there's ton more to try out. Even the pricing is great so you can't really go wrong. So between the pricing, the options and the serving sizes I enjoyed it. But the wait, the bland/deceiving biscuits and lackluster chicken sausage makes it a solid...
Read moreSecond time ever in the Haight, this time venturing in for Saturday brunch with a friend. Unlike most other places in the city, the wait at 11am wasn't terrible, at a little under half an hour, though it probably doubled after noon. And, also unlike many other places in the city, they don't have a list to put your names on, so be prepared to actually wait in line the entire time. After settling in, we order:
Eggs in a Tasty Nest - A little on the salty side, but solid, tasty, and flavorful. Be sure to throw on some hot sauce for that extra oomph!
Chicken Fried Steak - Honestly, why is this dish named so inconsistently everywhere I go? Sometimes it's country fried, sometimes it's chicken fried. In either case, know that this is NOT chicken, and IS steak. That said, this dish was a bit lackluster. Not bad, but nowhere near as good as what Hard Knox Cafe has to offer.
Accessibility Info
Venue - Tiny venue, and, if I recall correctly, only the aisle seating towards the front is really going to be accessible because it's too difficult to navigate towards the back.
Bathroom - Didn't check them out, but if they're in the back, good luck...
