The Mellow — Restaurant in San Francisco

I purchased a gift for a faraway family member, I’m a floral designer living in San Antonio, placing trust in the internet is a hard thing these days. So I gritted my teeth and ordered, to my surprise. I saw the pictures, I experienced the fabulous customer service, the immediate responses on their email service for delivery communication, the follow up on plant care assistance. I forwarded all emails to my family member. So I am a hard person to please and a tough consumer. So this small business has checked all the boxes. I wanted to love this place, but I am just not impressed. I have bought several plants from the Mission location, and they are leagues nicer there. The staff here simply does not want to help you. I went in looking for bigger nursery pots - for my thriving plants that I bought FROM the Mission location - and two separate Haight employees curtly told me to “check Amazon.”

What?!

Isn’t shopping local the whole point of stores like this? Don’t we all want to take money away from Bezos and put it back into the community?

Sooo disappointing. Such a bad look. If that’s their mentality, might as well save your money and buy a monstera for $13 at Trader Joe’s rather than $35...

Last year during the pandemic I bought plants from Mellow SF for the first time (a giant majestic palm, a snake plant and a pothos). All the plants were very reasonably priced especially for the quality, were packed really well, arrived in excellent condition, and are still thriving. I always get complements for my Mellow plants. Encouraged by this, I recently made a second purchase from them (money tree, spider plant, birds of paradise, and a croton). Even this time delivery was a breeze with regular updates and the plants look good (the spider plant could look a bit happier but hopefully it’ll get there).
