Updated 12/28/2022: Best chicken burger by value in SF. $10.
Big claim. Maybe you think I don't know my chicken burgers.
This is false.
The Competition:
Brenda's: Brenda's has better spices on the actual chicken, and I love Brenda's. Maybe it's a better burger, but at $16, it is not 60% better.
Foghorn Taproom: Ok, this one was really juicy and delicious, but NOT spiced as well as the Flippin Chicken. It's a thicker, juicier piece of chicken, and I loved their spicy chicken sandwich. All in all, I'd say it's really close to Flippin, but Foghorn is $12.
Papa Mak's: This was the 2nd most expensive Chicken burger. Outer Sunset, so sure, this is your best choice out there. And it IS excellent. But it's $14.50.
The truth is, SF's American food is AMAZING now. For Flippin Burger to beat the aforementioned places is quite an achievement.
The only competition for Flippin's burger's burger is Super Duper and Papa Mak's. I've heard arguments for all 3. All 3 are mentioned because they all have superior meat.
Garlic fries are great, but you need to eat them hot. They degrade quickly. Super Duper's garlic fries are more Parmasean than garlic. But in general, all fries are disappointing when you get them delivered.
In short, there are only a few places in SF where you can get a delicious meal for $10. This is one of them.
And don't @ me if you're some East-sider telling me about some overpriced crud in the Mission. Flippin...
Read moreI can't stress this enough, this place is one of the only affordable restaurants in the city AND has great food. Please don't raise your prices
Update 1 (with preface that I still love this place): last time I was there around closing time (~8pm, 9 is close), I waited for about 30 minutes to get my food. I asked after 20 minutes, and the confused response seemed like they gave my order to someone else. When I finally got home, my burger looked like they accidentally put a mini patty inside a full sized burger. I still give this restaurant 5 stars, but I'd like a full burger in exchange for the mistake. Everything tastes great otherwise, this just seemed like a one off mistake. End of update 1.
Original Review: Amazing food, and one of the very few affordable burger places in the city. I go here almost every time I pass Haight.
The burgers are great. Everything tastes fresh. The service is pretty quick most of the time, save when there was an entire biker convention ordering all at once.
I worked on Haight Street for years, and I always thought it was lacking a dedicated, amazing burger spot,...
Read moreFood was good not gonna fib on that - however service was not great. The guy that took our order was cool, and patient as we had a big order he minded his table manners when he helped bring over some soda. There were few things that just did not sit well with me though. There was a short Mexican guy (don’t start with I’m racist bs cause I am as Mexican as can be) that was so rude he yelled at a customer for taking part of their order before he said they could and then as we are eating at our table he comes over and starts reaching directly across everyone’s food multiple times to get the paper towel dispensers mind you all of them had napkins in them already so it wasn’t that it needed to be done right then. He was not at all courteous of what he was doing he had a nasty attitude and look on his face while interrupting our family meal. Lastly I was a bit surprised and disappointed that dine in service does not allow fountain drink refill. We spent about $200 on our food and drinks and could not have a refill we had to pay for a whole new cup- that to me is not service that will...
