cute little sushi shop in SF.. who can pass that up?

The place is pretty small with only a couple of tables so it has a nice cozy feel to it. They have happy hour every day till 7pm which is awesome because you can enjoy small plates before your meal :) I came here in a group of 4 around 5:30 pm on Sunday night and it wasn't too packed. It took us awhile to get our menus and it might be because there were only two servers but given the restaurant size.. service should have been better. We decided to get:

Fried Calamari: during happy hour its 5 dollars! and it was worth it because it tasted soooo good! The portion was decent.

Sweet Potato cut roll: One of my favorites! surprisingly sweet potato goes really well with rice (:

Artic Char cut roll: Delicious, very reminiscent to a salmon.

Spicy Tuna hand roll: LOVED THIS. The tuna tasted fresh and spicy.

Golden State roll: This has to be one of the best tasting rolls ever. The crisp apple combined with the yuzu really produced an interesting and delicious taste. The roll was slightly sweet, citrusy, and savory at the same time. Definitely worth getting.

Extinguisher roll: I thought this roll was okay. It tasted good but it wasn't anything special. I thought the fire would actually cook the roll but it didn't, it was more for display.

Kurodai (tataki): I never had farm sea bream before but it was tasty! I think it would be a shame if you came here without ordering a tataki plate because it was unique and they really presented the fish well plus it was easily my group's favorite dish of the night.

Sangria: very fruity :) I loved how they put a lot of fruits in the drink, and the lychee added a nice touch to the drink.

All the food was great, slightly on the pricier end. I'm used to bigger portions for the same price I guess. The one thing that sort of annoyed me was the slow service. They were great with getting the food out on the table until the last roll. I saw our last roll just sit at the sushi bar for 10 minutes and it turned out that they forgot about it. Other than that, I enjoyed...

I can agree with some other reviews that I read prior to trying this spot that said something along the lines of: “I wanted this to be a great sushi spot, but this just isn’t it.” Somethings here fall short. Here’s my experience...

Overall service is very good. It’s fast and friendly, and if you ask me, those two qualities of service are the most important. Perhaps server knowledge follows close behind, but my experience here is N/A as I didn’t need to ask any questions.

I arrived just after 5PM and the restaurant already had quite a few tables sat, and both the sushi bar and cocktail bar seats were partially occupied. I saw that as a great sign! Our server greeted us promptly and we ordered edamame and Miso Soup right away and received it immediately. The hostess had already provided us with glasses of water that had a slice of cucumber in them, so we lacked nothing.

I found the miso soup to be a little too salty and the spicy edamame tasted too mushy, like it had been microwaved. Afterwards we order 4 rolls, and all of them were just okay. I do think the fish is fresh, but something is off with the flavors. For example, I ordered the crunchy, spicy tuna (a sushi roll that is offered at just about any sushi spot) and although I normally love this roll, I couldn’t quite enjoy this one the way I usually do. It was too spicy and salty. There’s wasn’t much to it than that. The roll I enjoyed the most was probably the double double... but this roll is fried and not your typical sushi roll at all. The tataki roll and the Arctic char roll were also just okay... they were very salty and didn’t have much flavor besides maybe the tataki roll being slightly fishier because it’s topped with variations of fish roe.

Again, I wanted to love this place, I really did, but it just isn’t the sushi spot for me.

** I will say, however, that the happy hour they offer is pretty great for the price. For 2 miso soups, spicy edamame, a carafe of hot sake, and 4 rolls, we only paid $65 and change plus tip. We left full and happy despite not...

This is a hard review to write. My family and I had been coming to this restaurant for about 10 years and we really enjoy their food. The way we were treated tonight however has left us not wanting to eat here again. Posted closing time is 9pm. We were calmly enjoying our meal and quality time together, starting to wrap up around 8:15pm and our waitress abruptly places the check on our table without us having asked for it or giving us a chance to order dessert. At the same time, staff starts turning chairs upside down and cleaning the entire place with bleach, making us and the other remaining paying customers feel unwelcomed and pushed out. I briefly went to use the bathroom and found that the entire bathroom and area around it was soaked in bleach, my shoes and socks ended up wet. Upon returning to the table, my sister puts her card down and before my mother and I had a chance to put ours, the check is rapidly taken away. When the server brings it back I mention that I felt they were being rude by rushing us out and making us feel unwelcome a full 30 minutes before posted closing time, she did not apologize and simply gave me an ugly look. We felt very unwelcomed and saddened, especially after coming here for so many years. We will be seeking out a new favorite sushi spot in SF. We hope the business can learn from this, be more clear about when they actually close and not make paying customers feel like a...

I really wanted to love this place. I have two favorite sushi spots, and I'm always looking for another, but this not it. The good * Fish and ingredients feel very fresh, generous portions * Sake selection is excellent and we enjoyed the one we had (don't remember the name, we asked for a sake on the sweeter side) That's about all of the "good" I had. Now, to the "Not so good" * Service - When we received our dishes, the waiter wanted to present and explain about each fish. But couldn't remember half of them. That created an awkward situation when he is feeling frustrated, trying to remember while we all feel strange for him and can't start eating waiting for him to do that. Just give up and say that you will get back to us in a minute. * The sushi - Ingredients are all there, but they are trying to be special and add something, anything, to each sushi to make it unique. It's a great effort, but I feel like in most cases the original sushi, the one you expect, is better than the one you are served. * The price - This place is NOT cheap. And the price is not worth, in my opinion. I wanted this to become another "when-I-want-sushi-just-come-here" place for me; unfortunately, it is not the case.

Unfortunately, really had high hopes for Tataki, but the food/service wasn't very up to my expectations. Their online HH menu doesn't reflect 100% on their current menu, as we weren't able to order other cocktails or wines. We had reservations and were sat immediately. We ordered quite a bit of food from the happy hour menu: -Hot sake: not bad, good value -Hazy IPA: not bad, good value as well -Nasu agebitarashi: grilled eggplant and zucchini, ok -Agedashi tofu: below average, hard tofu, mild dipping sauce -Ikaage: calamari, avoid at all costs. Way too much breading. Honestly didn't taste any squid. Didn't finish it. -Nigiri (iwana, maguro, suzuki, katsuo): arctic char, tuna, striped bass, skipjack tuna...nothing really stood out -Handroll: arctic char, albacore, and crunchy spicy tuna, nothing stood out either for this Again, none of the food stood out, nothing really tasted fresh. A lot of orders were forgotten. Staff was hovering a lot and really getting into our personal space. I think someone was new there. Don't think I'll be back. Street parking available.
