Bonchon McKee — Restaurant in San Jose

I've had Bonchon Chicken a few times in the past from a different location (Sunnyvale), and was so excited to see that they've opened this specific SJ location!

I ordered food online for pickup, and everything was ready when I showed up. My one complaint with the chicken was that it was too dry/plain! I usually order the soy garlic glaze, and this time was no exception...but my boneless wings came almost without sauce, to my eye. The soy garlic glaze was barely there! I was rather disappointed because the glaze is the best and most flavorful part of Bonchon. This was basically chicken nuggets with just tiny drips of glaze. Two or three pieces out of twelve were nearly dry with no glaze at all. For the price I paid ($15.85 for a 12 piece order) this seemed to be a half-done job.

Sometimes overall quality at restaurants can dip, depending on whether you take out or opt to sit down; and I think this might be such a time. If I order for pickup again, I'll be sure to check for the amount of glaze...

I've been here multiple times and ordered various items across the menu. The only thing really bringing me back is the tteokbokki. I've tried giving Bonchon many chances as I always go specifically for the tteokbokki and will try something different on the side. As I run into the same issue of the chicken being dry and having not enough sauce. I recently tried their new chicken sandwiches, I had lots of hope and it sadly had the same problem. I can compliment this store in great customer service and good overall atmosphere, as well their crispiness to the wings but the overall lack in flavor, sauce ratio, and dryness in the chicken constantly has be disappointed.

I've given this place many opportunities to prove me and my friends wrong as I hope for the best but it keeps letting me down. I will give them another opportunity soon and will be possibly updating the review some time...

Service was not good. One server for the night and he was very unexperienced. He was serving unopened beer because he couldn't find a bottle opener. The customer was so mad. Customer offered to open the bottle himself with a spoon server said I'll just give you a draft beer🍺 customer said NO I want the bottle! And had to open it with a spoon himself.🍾🥄 Other customers couldn't eat there food because there was no silverware 🍴on the tables. My experience will be unforgettable The food was okay until I found a big bug🦟 on my plate!!!! I was so grossed out🤢 I couldn't run fast enough out of that place.
