Kakuna offers a standard, Bay Area sushi experience; nothing offensive, but nothing to write home (or to Google Reviews) about. The atmosphere is fine, and the staff covers their responsibilities. Nothing bad, nothing unique.

As with most sushi locations, I ordered a chirashi to standardize my experience--here, a "deluxe chirashi" is offered, which I ordered to share with another person. The dish was as expected. The fish is good in taste and variety. The chirashi here comes with all of the fish offered (salmon, tuna, otoro, yellowtail, makerel, shrimp, scallops, tamagoyaki, roe, flake fish (?)), seaweed salad, cilantro, radish, and rice. The cut of the fish is a bit large, but fine to eat still. The rice is good in both grain and seasoning. The presentation was quite cute, too :) I came with family who also ordered several rolls and ramen, all of which were said to be fine.

Overall, the ingredients are well picked, but there's nothing exauisite about dining here. Would return if I were hungry and craving anything they offer--it all...

Atmosphere: The place doesn’t seem really decorative and it’s quite small but it doesn’t seem to get too busy. I feel like this place is more for takeouts but you can dine in if you wanted to. They have a good amount of dine in tables so if you wanted to grab food after work or something with no wait then this place is pretty good.

Food: It’s so worth every time I come! They give you the perfect amount of ingredients in your rolls. I feel like they aren’t skimpy with their ingredients and they give you quite a lot compared to other places. The price for these rolls are pretty worth IMO especially when the food is delicious. This is one of those hidden gems place for sushi.

Service: Very friendly and best part is the foods come out pretty quickly. Their takeouts are quite popular since so many people came to pick up their orders.

Tips: No yelp waitlist, first come first serve. They do take takeout...

I have tried many different places here in San Jose but nothing was like this one. I went to do laundry and seen it across the street. I tried my luck and I was so glad that I did! The food was absolutely amazing. I got a bento box which was priced around $15, another bento box for $15 and sushi rolls for $15. The total was $49 after drinks and taxes. Absolutely amazing price for the value. For reference, the bugolgi bento box I ordered came with miso soup, salad, gyoza, rice, bugolgi, and two orange slices. The food had a very good taste and nice presentation. To add on, the service was amazing. They often came by to check how we were doing and refilled our waters multiple times! Many restaurants often forget to check in and do such a thing but they were on it. They were very kind and provided a box to go without me even having to ask. I would definitely go back and would recommend this place to others!...

Tiny store with the maximum of capacity of 36. Because there is a large party of 10, all the other tables got delayed to basically wait until the 10 got their full menu served. The bill was served instantly after we finished the last bite in the dish, while it took us 30 more minutes to wait until the dishes were ready. Plus the restroom kept smelling strongly weird with an artificial odor all over the dining area. The signal within the restaurant was constantly bad that my phone couldn’t load anything so we just waited boringly. 👇Top de- recommend dish in the below pic “Ragin Cajun”, smells like dead fish (been dead for days) soaked in water mixed with cheese and mayonnaise.
