Me and my girlfriend came in for Sunday brunch and had an excellent experience and will definitely be coming back to try out their full menu!! It was pretty busy, but we were greeted and served with joyous faces and flat-out superb food and drinks.
We sat at the bar (which was full according to COVID spacing), and our bartender Audrey was a rock star! Not once did we feel like we needed to wait to be waited on. The cocktail i ordered was wonderfully balanced, and looked beautiful. The food we ordered was delicious, and served to us by Cody himself. All of the staff who interacted with us, always made sure we had what we needed and provided us with top notch service in a wonderful atmosphere. Really, if I could give 6 stars out of 5 I would!
If I had to delve deep (and I mean DEEP) for a critique here, it would be that the lighting in the main dining area could be a bit brighter. That might just be the vibe this restaurant is going for, and it does work, but I think I would prefer to sit at the bar where the lighting accents and profiles all of the wall and bar decor (read: liquor and glassware 🤣) in a much more pleasant way. This is obviously personal aesthetic preference and in no means influenced my rating at all.
This place is AWESOME! Thank you for giving us a wonderful experience!!!
Edit (April 10th, 2021): Finally got to go back and try their normal dinner menu, and I really just can't elaborate any more on the positive review I left for the Sunday brunch. This place serves top notch food, with spacing and ambiance to make a table's meal feel intimate but also serviced. I dont agree with this place having 2$ out of 5. I would put it at 3$ out of 5, bordering on 4$ - however you get what you pay for here. Everything was absolutely exquisite, even down to our waiter who was able to explain to us our questions about the menu and drinks in immaculate detail. You get 5☆ dining here with a casual dress atmosphere and a friendly and helpful staff, and there is absolutely no place I'd rather go in San Marcos! This was my birthday dinner, and I could not have left...
Read moreWe were visiting San Marcos just to shop but stumbled upon this gem after the wait at Texas Roadhouse was longer than we wanted to wait. I’m soooo glad it was! Cody’s food is above exceptional!! Every single dish we tried was DELICIOUS! We started with the Brussel sprouts and crab cakes for appetizers and they were both packed with flavor. The brussell sprouts topped with feta, bacon and baby red red grapes was our favorite of the two. I ordered the pork chop! Omg! The best pork chop I’ve ever had in my life!!!! I’m still dreaming about it. My husband ordered the short ribs and was blown away! We then ordered the carrot cake cheesecake for dessert and I’m so glad we did! It was topped with bits of bacon and drizzled with caramel, we ate every single last bite! We sat on the patio and enjoyed the amazing R&B, oldies playlist playing at great level to be able to jam but still enjoy table conversations. We also ordered drinks, they were bomb!! On the way out a nice gentleman held the door open for my family and I to exit and I asked was he the manager and he stated “something like that, you call me whatever, you can call me Tupac” we laughed then he said “just kidding, I’m Cody!” My husband and I went on t rave about the pork chop and the short ribs and he genuinely engaged in conversation about how he made the pork chops. We loved our experience and can’t wait to visit again when we come back...
Read moreWe were looking for a place to eat that was different from what we could get in our home town of Houston. We found Cody’s due to reviews. This place doesn’t disappoint! The interior is intimate with low lighting. Each table has a real flame candle. Classy. It’s the perfect place for sharing a bottle of wine and having a quiet meal. The walls are lined with murals of famous musicians. Our server was great. She provided input on their best dishes. I wish I remembered her name. 7/3/2024 at 9:05 PM. She has long hair and is very friendly. She did a great job. We started with the wedge salad. It’s large enough to split. The bacon was so good. Very crisp and flavorful. I had the lobster ravioli for my meal. It was delicious! The sauces drizzled on the ravioli tasted like a butternut squash base. You may not think those items would pair well, but it was perfect. The dish looks small, but it was filling. The gentleman had the pork chop. It is a bone-in chop on a bed of mash potatoes. The portion is large. I am not a pork chop person, but I was very impressed. The bacon jam was great, potatoes were creamy, and the chop itself was very tender. I highly recommend both of these. I included a picture of the menu. We only found the lunch menu on Google. You need to do dinner here! Cody’s has been open for 12 years. They will be around for a long time, I’m sure. Very, very pleased with...
