Rarely have I been as impressed with a BBQ spot (especially a downtown spot as they tend to be touristy and superficial generally) as I was with Brick's!! Let's get into it.. First the ambiance. Not gonna lie, on a Friday night.. it's LOUD. And it's busy. But there's entertaining live music and the atmosphere is fun and energetic without feeling frenzied or chaotic. The greeters are super friendly and on point! We were seated almost immediately. The décor is what I would term "modern BBQ upscale chic". You like that? I just coined it. You can use it :) Next - the food! Man oh man the pics I took do not do this food justice. Everything was great but a few items stood out to me. The mac & cheese is very creamy and flavorful, with pimentos. The loaded onion rings are very crunchy and tasty! The kickin' greens are literally KICKIN' you right in the mouth! These are hands down the best tasting greens from a restaurant I've ever had, but beware, these greens are SPICY. I don't mean like a slow burn that gets hotter, I mean first bite BLAMO!! Mouth on fire!! But super tasty! Lastly, the RIBS!! I mean that's what you wanna hear about right? Maaaaaan, you ain't HAD no ribs till you've had these tender, juicy, meaty, perfectly smoked Saint Louis style ribs! I didn't even want to put any sauce on them they were so tasty! Speaking of sauce.. there's is pretty tasty also. They have a sweet, a vinegar based one (brisket), and a spicy one (mild to me). I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the freaking FANTASTIC job our server Cassidy S did, on her SECOND DAY on the job! She was so attentive and accommodating, even as crazy busy as she was, and very knowledgeable about the restaurant and the menu! I mean the food was fabulous but Cassidy made the evening for us! Keep your eye on that one, she's a keeper!!! Also, shout out to the live performer (i forgot his name sadly), but this guys high energy renditions of popular tunes from the past in his raspy 90s rock style voice was perfect in the setting! Hi-five man! Pro tip - street parking is packed in the evening.. use the parking garage a few doors down :)

Another restaurant with Brick in its name - hopefully this owner/manager isn’t going to be nasty as Hales Blackbricks, can take genuine and constructive critics. Probably won’t return. Love their decor - high ceiling, industrial. The last booth by the bathroom is angled. I don’t know they did that to shield the bathroom entrance or needed to be. In any case, it looks good. Two big open windows connect their outdoor area. The length of the bar looks out to an indoor garage. I particularly enjoyed their tiled tables: similar to my childhood home in Beijing, which was made by Chee Hsin Cement - I've a book on it, self published on Amazon. The service is good. The pretty young girl has red and purple nail polish - maybe I should go for the purple, to match my hair. The food is a little trying. The bacon burnt end is on the sweet side but tender. The brisket is thick and dry. With the butter knife, cutting became a chore. The ribs is a little softer than the brisket, but have it better many other places. The young girl, the maitre d’ and a lady in black pants came over, asking how’s everything - they certainly care. … after dinner, we went to the opera house for Lucia di Lammermoor, which was a smooth sail.

I was very excited to try this place as I work close by and am a huge BBQ fan (grew up in KC). I ordered online, the pork quesadilla ($14) for lunch & the USDA Prime Brisket ($22) for dinner tonight. I specifically made a note that I’d like the brisket lean. Not only were there only 2 slices of brisket, but it was fattier than any brisket I’ve ever been served.*See attached photo. Definitely pricey, especially for lunch menu prices & for the volume you get and it feels like I was purposely served fatty meat because I requested it lean. The quesadilla, was okay, though jammed into a box that was too small & needs to be served with more than just sour cream, that doesn’t pair well with a pulled pork quesadilla. I tried both types of sauces they gave me with the brisket. The spicy was gross & the other too sweet. I haven’t tried the over fatty 2 slices of brisket, or the 2 sides it came with yet, but I have low expectations with my experience so far. The staff was friendly & attentive & they have a great location, but who cares if the food is mediocre to bad. I will not be a repeat customer & recommend looking elsewhere for good BBQ from a quality kitchen.

My wife and I (Sarasota natives but back in town for Christmas) popped by not knowing anything about it and loved it. The food we got: bacon burnt ends - bacon flavor balanced with a sweetish glaze, so rendered out as to be like candy Turkey BLTA - loved it. Solid amount of turkey and not thinly shaved, which gave it great body and a side of esquites/elote Brisket platter - a decent chunk of brisket for the price, good bark, decent smoke ring. Bbq sauces on the side were perfectly tasty. Pimento Mac and cheese was good, but it felt like it wasn't one whole concept... More like a spoonful of pimento cheese on top of Mac and cheese, which still ticks a lot of boxes for me. The pit beans were really good and didn't feel like an afterthought like they often do at bbq joints. The staff, especially our server Riley, were absolutely fantastic. Our server absolutely killed in terms of dish explanation and recommendation, attentiveness, and timeliness. The manager that popped by was pleasant and the host was very welcoming.

This was our first visit to Brick’s for a late lunch. We ordered the. Brisket Platter ($17)served with two sides and I chose Pimiento Mac n Cheese (and asked for no jalapeño) and Brisket Hash. We also ordered the Brisket sandwich ($14) with fries. The Brisket has a great flavor but it was very very fatty throughout. The Pimiento cheese Mac n cheese was quite flavorful but there were no pimientos al all. The Brisket hash wasn’t at all what I imagined as it was really chopped potato’s roasted with brisket on top. It was tasty but I think I would choose something different next time. The Brisket sandwich was good but they put sweet pickles on it. That was a shock to the taste buds. We would have fathered a dill pickle. The fries were thick cut steak fries that were lightly seasoned and they were hot and nice and tender inside. Service was a little slow and odd but it was ok. This is a good choice to experience if you are looking for barbecue.

Love this place!! Just flew in from Houston and had to come check it out! They did not disappoint! The St. Louis ribs are fall off the bone good!! Great caramelization outside and moist and tender meat inside! The brisket is fantastic, I chose the marble cut with extra bark, it is so delicious doesn’t even need sauce! The turkey is well cooked, not overdone so it’s still very moist and not dry. I recommend the Brussel sprouts and pimento Mac and cheese for your sides!!! Both are superbly cooked and such a great blend of flavors! Huge portions but I couldn’t stop eating until I finished them all. Had the deviled egg appetizers too!! For dessert polished it off with the Brûlée banana pudding!! Wow!! Everything here from the food to the service is outstanding. Emma was attentive, professional, made great recommendations on dishes, and was super friendly and nice! She’s a great asset to this restaurant! Highly recommend the Texas Trio!
