V & J Duncan Antique Maps — Local services in Savannah

Buyers beware you thoroughly inspect your prints/maps before you buy!! I found a "modern reproduction" that I bought for $100 only to find out when I got home to better lighting that it was a low-quality photocopy on cardstock. You can see pixelation and blurs as if it was printed on a home office printer. I could have found the image online and received the same or higher quality print from an office store for mere dollars. When I returned to the store to return or at least get a partial refund for a more fitting price, the employee said they could not do anything based on the new owner's policies and that all sales are final. Incredibly disappointed as we like exploring this store a lot (2 stars instead of 1). If we return, I will be VERY hesitant to buy...

In 2001 my husband and I stopped in Savannah and happened upon what became one of my favorite shops of all time - full of all sorts of drawers and shelves filled with all sorts of maps and prints. I have since visited Savannah a number of times and found my way to this gem again and again, and now, in 2024 I was able to visit their NEW location with my sister and her sons. The person working was EXTREMELY welcoming (even with the three boys wandering around) and they told us the story of reviving V & J after moving into this new location but still retaining all the charming drawers and shelves. It feels as if you are on an adventure just looking for the print, or map that catches your eye.

Stepping into this shop was pure delight. The kind lady at the front welcomed us happily and told us where we could find everything. We ended up spending over an hour digging through the drawers and marveling over everything. We were so engrossed in the selection we couldn't believe how long we had been there when the shop keeper let us know she needed to close up. After making our purchases and leaving we realized we had stayed 30 minutes past open hours and she didn't say a word of complaint and was more than friendly while checking us out. I cannot wait to come back to this store every time I'm in Savannah...
