I have passed this diner since moving to Savannah 5 years ago. Frankly it always struck me as sort of seedy. Furthermore there were never any cars in the lot. (Never a good sign.) Several months ago, maybe longer, it began to look a bit more “together”. Now, you need to understand that I’m from NJ. I know diners. My interest was piqued. I saw a sign that said it was under new ownership and management. I saw signs advertising specials. I had to try it. Sunday my husband and I drove over for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised. We got one of the last spots in the lot. We were seated immediately. And it looked like a real diner - almost. It’s small and there are no table-side jukeboxes. BUT…they do have a couple TVs playing classic rock music videos. The cook provides a great percussion accompaniment with his use of his tools on the grill. (Not kidding, he is good and listening to him makes everyone smile.) The wait staff the morning we were there were 2 older women. One was clearly having difficulty moving around and I felt for her. They did cover each other’s tables which helped move things along. The menu was pure Jersey diner. It led with noting that their French toast was made from Challah! I’m not sure if many people in the south understand why that is an important ingredient but IYKYK! The variety of French toast was awesome. I picked French toast with cannoli filling. It was topped with chocolate sauce. It was amazing. My husband ordered French toast with 2 eggs. It came with the eggs perfectly done and they were big. Now why did I only give 4 stars? The washroom was not a pleasant experience. The floor looked like it needed a deep clean and the toilet wobbled on its base. There was a thick ring of brown and black gunk around the base. My husband said the men’s room was fine but he grew up overseas in a house with a dirt floor so go figure. I have to consider that if the washroom is dirty and smelly then maybe hygiene elsewhere is not up to my expectations. This could be a great place in Savannah. It has a few things it...
Read moreThis may be the worst meal I have ever had at any restaurant in my 53 years. First, my friend whose birthday we were celebrating gets his meal - an Omelet - 30 minutes before anyone else gets their food, so he was done before the rest of us even got to start. Second, he NEVER got his pancakes or his bacon, even after reminding the servers multiple times. The servers did not refill our drinks, we had to ask them each time even though they were standing around right next to our table and the restaurant was not busy, there was only one other party of 3 present. My daughter ordered the house special with 2 sides of toast - and never got even a single piece of toast, again after reminding the servers several times. The eggs, bacon and the sausage all were coated with so much pepper that Popeye the Sailor would not have been able to stomach it. It is like the cook literally dumped a pepper shaker on the food. The pancakes finally came, cold, with NO butter and the syrup at the table was covered in sugar ants! When we asked for butter they brought a bowl with some honey and some jelly packets ... BUT NO Butter! The other two members of our party finally got their food and it was so cold they could barely choke it down, again like our servers simply let it sit there until they felt like delivering it. Last but not least, we had ordered 12 Lemon Pepper wings and they were so salty... literally as if a tablespoon of salt was sprinkled on each wing. This caused my daughter to rush to the restroom and throw up and the rest of us got sick to our stomachs and were near throwing up. The server took the wings but made no offer to replace them or take them off the bill.
THIS PLACE SUCKS! It should be closed down and no one should have to have such crappy, uncaring, rude and...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible experience. Drove in from Atlanta for Memorial Day, decided to grab a bite prior to checking in to our hotel at approx 9:15. As of 10:45 we were still waiting on our food which came in pieces. When we got up to leave I FINALLY got my pancakes... After an hour and 45 minutes. I was miserable, wife was miserable, kids were miserable. Also bathrooms were disgusting. Wouldn't let daughter go in there so we got to hear her huffing and puffing the entirety of the meal. Food was OK. Not amazing. Definitely wasn't worth $70 (after $10 tip) for 2 entrees and 2 kids meals. 10 out of 10 won't attend again. EDITED FOR SAKE OF ESTABLISHMENT OWNER: Sir, there were all of 3 people in the diner when my family and I sat down. We ordered our food and sat. No drinks... Nothing. We had driven over 4 hours to Savannah and we were all starving. Being my normal self I declined the option to go to Wendy's thinking "Diner food is quick and always good" Wrong. The food was OK. Not amazing, not horrible. The gyro omelet was very good. The service was not. There is no sugar coating that with excuses. After an hour of waiting for some pancakes, an omelet, a patty melt (supposed to be on Texas toast... came on rye...), a waffle, and a kids chicken finger plate the waitress continued to tell me that it was being plated as we speak. Fast forward another 30 minutes (literally. This is no exaggeration.) and bits and pieces of our dinner start to arrive but the stack of pancakes I ordered as a side are nowhere to be found. Finally after we finish our meal and request the check the flaps show up... I can keep going and going just to see how many excuses the owner has for a horrible visit but I think yall...
