I have been to Kuma's Corner on three separate occasions and I can guarantee that today's visit will be the last.
The first visit was last year, having only heard good reviews about their food and nothing about their theme I regrettably brought my family. We were meeting another family as well and they arrived first. Had we arrived first we would had left instantly after noticing their obnoxious theme. On that visit we learned that the burgers were very good, the fries are ok as were the cheese curds and their fried pickles are some of the best I've ever had. Upon leaving I knew that if I were to ever return it would be without my wife and kids.
Came here a month ago with my neighbor, the music was much better that day. Had some actual music that I recognized like Pearl Jam, Sound Garden etc. and there was some stupid adult cartoon on the TV. The fried pickles were once again delicious and the burgers were very good.
Today's visit I came solo, and arrived around the time they opened. The music was basically just screaming with no recognizable lyric. I tuned it out, much like the horror movie that was on the TV. Not sure who wants to watch a demon vomit or blood and gore while they eat, so a pretty odd choice. I ordered the loaded fries which were not great. The burger was not as good as it has been on the 2 previous visits. I ordered medium rare and it was closer to medium well. The chips that came with it were plain so those remained mostly untouched. I finished my meal and upon paying I noticed that 2 little girls, no older than 5 had just walked in with their parents. I mentioned to the bartender that two little girls just walked in so maybe you guys could change the channel from the horror film. He had zero empathy stating that the parents should know better and that's on them because it's part of their theme/vibe.
As a father that statement pissed me off because it lacked all class or fact. How can you say that they should know better when your website states the following. "Kumas Corner has been serving up the best burgers on the planet for over 18 years, with an edgy yet welcoming atmosphere. We only carry the best beer with a focus on local craft brews. Bring your friends or bring the family and enjoy what we have to offer!" How are blood/gore filled horror films a "welcoming atmosphere" that you should "bring the family". Under your own company's website how could parents know not to bring kids when they are encouraged to do so?
Also, seeing how your burgers are all named after heavy metal bands and not horror films, how can you say that is your theme/vibe? How are horror films welcoming?
So a warning to all parents, their food is not even close to good enough to warrant the nightmares and memories your children with surely suffer here and my money will not go to support such ignorance...

I went to the Kuma's on Diversey in Chicago several years ago and gave up waiting for a seat to open after about 90 minutes. Their relatively new location in Schaumburg is larger so does accommodate more people. When the weather is nice, as it was the day we went, there is a really nice outdoor patio. When we arrived all the outdoor seats were taken so we sat at a small table next to the bar.
If you have not been to Kuma's, it is a metal themed burger bar. Metal blaring in the background; a large screen with horror films projected on it. (Freddie Kruger was in his prime in the film playing while we were there.) The place is crowded, noisy, and just generally fun.
I ordered their Led Zeppelin Burger - it was at least 1/2 pound of beef patty covered with pulled pork, pickles, and a few other things on a pretzel bun. I knew it would be large, so chose their chips over french fries. Kerrie had a wedge salad with Buffalo Chicken strips.
First, the burger was even larger than I expected. I was determined to finish it, and surprisingly, I did. The chips were crisp and not too salty. I don't think I would order the same one again - to me, the flavors of the beef and pork fought each other some. I know others find this one of their favorites so this is probably just me.
While I did not try Kerrie's wedge salad I did try one of the Chicken strips. It was clearly real sliced chicken and not ground. The taste was good, and the Buffalo sauce was quite good.
They have an amazing craft beer selection, with a dozen or more on tap and lots more in bottles. They will let you sample before you order. I tried a couple of them and settled on a coffee IPA (don't recall the brewery). I did not realize they had a full bar until afterward. I would have gotten a bourbon, although their liquor selection is not large.
We had one small issue with the meal that is not even worth mentioning here. But, without fully explaining, we let our server know about the problem saying we thought the kitchen should know, but everything was good and not to worry about it. Literally moments later the manager came over and apologized saying he would take something off of our bill. We said it was no big deal and he did not have to do that. He nodded and walked away. When we did get our check, there was a discount applied. I have to say that while this gesture probably took a 3 1/2 star experience and made it a 4 star one.
Thank you, Kumas, for opening a location near us. We...
Read moreI have been going here for years and the last visit left me really disappointed. I went on Wednesday 10/9 as a party of two. I had left my wallet at home and knew that Schaumburg has two ID rule for alcoholic sales. I offered my FOID card, issued by ISP and accepted as a legal form of age verifying identification, and a photo of my driver's license. Our server went to ask management and I was denied service of alcohol. A little disappointing, but I understand that establishments have the right to refuse service. Although I am certainly over the age of 21, and reading Schaumburg's municipal code, the ordinance only applies to serving suspected minors. Anyway, I understood their sentiment. However, following that encounter, I asked the server what was rejected, the FOID card or the photo of the ID, and she said both. That made little sense to me but I didn't want to cause a ruckus so I accepted. I could have easily grabbed my vehicle registration or an insurance card as my "second" form of ID, but nothing was offered, I was simply rejected.
My partner was served her drink, and the server never asked me if I wanted anything else to drink which was also a bit disappointing and strange.
My biggest issue began after that. The manager, who I was only able to identify as I saw the server approach her with the initial question, began glaring at our table and staring at us. This seemed to spread from server to server, and every time a server approached the pass where the manager was standing, they would all join in seemingly staring us down. This was very strange and made us increasingly uncomfortable. We ordered an appetizer but we shouldn't have as we were being stared at the entire time. We ate it quickly and promptly asked for a check so we could leave.
The entire encounter was strange and incredibly off-putting. I really don't feel comfortable returning here again, which is unfortunate. It would have been nice if the manager had actually approached us and explained her reasoning for denying the service, and then NOT have stared us down the entire rest of our visit. I hope the real management can 1. teach management to approach tables when something like this happens instead of hiding at the bar or at the pass making the server explain it, and 2. teach management to not stare down patrons. Like I said, we will probably not be returning...
