This place has amazing sandwiches worthy of a 4.5 out of 5, maybe even a 5 out of 5. I love eating lunch here. My only issue is that the last 3 times I ate here something has been wrong or unusual about the pickles that is serve with my sandwich. I will call it “picklegate”. The 1st incident my significant other and I ate lunch at Abe’s and she was served a half eaten pickle with teeth marks and all, that happen to make it onto her plate and served. It was immediately the first thing we notice when the plate was placed in front of us and served. Abe's deli resolution was just to get her another pickle and presumably called it even. Another incident my parents came and visited and I’ve rave and ranted about how amazing Abe’s sandwich’s are. My mother could not stop talking about how amazing the corn beef on rye tasted but, once again picklegate struck….. I ordered a turkey pastrami sandwich with Russian sauce nothing extra. I notice my pickle had coleslaw sauce and mustard on it…. My only conclusion is that Abe’s recycles their pickles off already served plates. I hate to leave a negative review because Abe’s deli has some of the best sandwiches. Although it’s my own personal conspiracy base off accounts dining at Abe’s, I feel it is necessary to share. I would still recommend eating here for lunch but not...
Read moreOy vey! You can take the boy out of the town, but you can't take the town out of the boy. So my quest for perfect New York deli outside of new York is frequently fraught with disappointment. But, oh happy day! We chanced quite by accident, to come upon Abe's Kosher Deli. What a great find! Our choices were wonderful. My wife had a Pastrami Reuben, with onion rings. The Reuben was very good, though it came toasted, where she prefers grilled. No big deal. The onion rings were divine! Light, crispy, and perfectly fried, they were excellent. We don't have a picture of the onion rings: we inhaled them before we could get a picture! I had an everything bagel with nova lox, which was perfect. The menu lists this as the favorite order, and rightly so. The bagel was crisp on the outside and lighter on the inside: nice. A nice schmeer of fresh cream cheese and a generous portion of lox made for a very pleasant fare. I prefer bialys, but was told they just didn't sell. I cannot fail to mention they had my beloved Cel- Ray, which was so hard to get for so long. The staff was friendly and pretty knowledgeable, the premises clean and bright. Parking on the street was good, but there is a paid lot across the street. Stop in to Abe's Kosher Deli, have a Cel-Ray...
Read moreA good little deli with a pickle problem. Spent last weekend in Scranton and was looking forward to lunch at Abe’s; wanted to see how it would stack up against the best from NYC, LA and Miami. Let’s just say they did okay. The staff was great, friendly, efficient and attentive. The corned beef was very tasty, if a bit dry. Same for the chopped liver. Portions were decent; price a bit high but fair.
I gave the food 4 stars when really it deserved 3.5 stars and here’s why. First, an 8 oz glass of iced tea half filled with ice is just plain inadequate. Second, we ordered combo sandwiches, paid extra for coleslaw and Russian dressing; rather than on the sandwich we got a small bowl of slaw with a squirt of Russian dressing on top; really? My mother, she should rest in peace, would have come behind the counter and showed you how to make a combo. Third, oh third, the pickles. It’s not that the pickles were bad, they were fresh and crisp, but they were more cucumber shown a jar of brine than real good, old fashioned Jewish dill pickle.
