Lots of reviews and now for my first negative one. Big Mario manager, let your employees know feedback is a positive thing. That’s how you get better. One star for being open “late” on Wednesday. One star for friendly cashier. I Agree with others reviews here, no salt on the crust and sauce was flavor free. Crust was also burnt on one of our pieces but we let that slide. Because of our love for BM initially wasn’t going to say anything. But as I continued eating this flavor free pizza, I thought, I should tell this place, a place we have liked for years - this particular slice doesn’t have any flavor outside of the pepperoni. It tasted like cooked flour, with unsalted tomato product on top. My expectation was a light apology. Maybe an offer for another piece or simply an apology. I understand kitchens aren’t perfect. Instead I received some gruff angry response about “salt in pizza crust?” And some other under breath remark from the pizza cook. I guess that’s how Mario”s rolls these days. The hostess tried to be nice but the big Mario looking chef was not ready for any feedback. They simple walked off and the cashier moved on. Well, here’s your star. I now join the crowd calling Mario’s overpriced pizza, overpriced beer, and slices served with burned crust with NO flavor. I suppose it maybe better drunk, and/or, after smoking. Or more stars if you need to watch sodium intake. Whatever you do, do not let the kitchen know, they don’t take any form of feedback or criticism. Should have waited in line at the other place 3 blocks west. I will make sure to let people know that the kitchen crew is very sensitive, does not take feedback, and sells salt free...
Read moreFrom the outside it looks like a typical hole in the wall BAR slash pizza joint, which is awesome. I can see where this place gets crowded on a weekend night or around lunchtime, but we went around 3pm on a thursday afternoon because my wife and i had some vacation time to kill. Prices are about normal for a downtown, relatively well known pizza joint. It was around $20 for a large pie with 2 toppings, plus another $8 for two beers. These pizzas will feed 3 people easily. Or buy them by the slice.
The service is great, very nice people behind the counter and bar. The decor even reminds me of most urban pizza joints albeit Seattle is well known for letting everyone and their cousin have a liquor license, so I wouldn't be surprised to find a city McDonald's with a full bar (although I haven't seen that yet). Very 20-something urban grunge vibe this coming from a newly turned 40 who is eternally 28, so it can deinitely be a cute date (off peak hours) for a 20-30 something couple who love NY style pizza. Oh yes, almost forgot that part. Having grown up in a town between NYC and Philadelphia, and lived 4 years between Boston and NYC, I know good pizza. Now I haven't been to more than a half dozen pizza joints in the Seattle area yet, but this place is for real. VERY close to NY style pizza. It's got that large slice, greasy, drippy, thin but crispy dough, the sauce is almost there along with the cheese, like 90% of the way there. Light years better than any other pizza I've had in the area so far. So thanks Google maps/urbanspoon/yelp! Now we need someone to open a place in...
Read moreBe careful of this individual. I have lived and worked in Seattle for over a decade, and a huge fan and patron of Big Mario’s for 10 Years. Our treatment tonight by this individual whose name I was told was Kiyo was unacceptable and disturbing.
A group of friends and I visited Mario’s around 12:45 am after I had finished a shift at a local bar down the street. I tried asking thru the window if they were still open (they were) but was fully ignored by this employee. They then responded to the ONLY Caucasian individual in our group letting them know they were open. After I expressed my frustration that they ignored me and only Responded to the white person in our group, I was told that they “were having a bad day”. I responded with my feeling that it was unacceptable to treat patrons in this manner no matter your personal life, and was then told that they would no longer serve me, but that they would still serve the only Caucasian individual we were with.
Our group ultimately Left and chose to go to A Pizza Mart (HIGHLY RECOMMEND), which is another pizza place around the corner.
I don’t write bad reviews. I don’t normally write any reviews. But the behavior of this employee toward a group of black and brown individuals was absolutely abhorrent and worthy of being shared online.
Great pizza here. Some very rude and prejudice staff that unfortunately have ruined the years of positive experiences I have had at this establishment. Legal fillings will follow as the situation did escalate from there thru further discriminatory actions by this individual.
AVOID this employee if at...
