Very disappointed in my experience here. Came for happy hour on a Wednesday; no issues getting a seat quickly, so we started off on a good note. We then ordered drinks, and I guess during happy hour they provide patrons a free veggie tostada which is cool (and it wasn't bad at all.)
Then...the wheels fell off the wagon, and I have no idea why.1) we ordered chips and gauc, and the gauc was not good at all. Like really bad. It's as if they took a bunch of avocado and mashed it together; no taste at all. The salsa that came with the chips wasn't much better, so I decided to chalk that up. We were going to order something else but.....2) the waiter never came back to out table... Like ever. After he dropped off the food, that was it! That's a big red flag for me, and when it happens I just figure they don't want my business ESPECIALLY if the place isn't packed. Which they weren't. We had to flag him down for the check, which leads me to the biggest problem 3) we told the waiter we didn't like the gauc and he was kind enough to take it off the check. But get this - when he walked back to the table with the bill, he dropped the paper receipt on the table! Didn't hand it to us, didn't say he took the gauc off... Nothing. Just sat it upside down on the table. I gave him a mulligan because maybe it was a mistake. But then... When he took the credit card for the tab, he dropped the payment machine off at the table and walked away again! Folks - having been to enough restaurants, that's incredibly rude behavior.
So there is is; i can't recommend Fogon because not only was the service poor, but the couple things I had weren't good except for the tostada (but I didn't even...
Read moreWe were originally going to go to La Josie, a bar under the same ownership, but were kicked out as they did not accept Canadian licenses and ID cards. No matter, this place really rocked our socks off! The food was superb, and had the service to match it. Thanks Jorge for the hospitality!
We had the Ceviche to start, which was delicious- very well seasoned and we were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions of shrimp.
I had the enchiladas mariscos, while my partner had the carnitas burrito. My enchiladas were so good that I cleaned out my plate. My partner also made a valiant effort, but alas, the burrito was just too big.
I really liked my enchiladas as they were so very creamy, and they used a mild sauce that didn’t overpower the scallop, shrimp or crab in my entree. Beans and rice were also well seasoned, and made an excellent accompaniment to the enchiladas.
The carnitas burrito was also delicious. The pork was once again, beautifully seasoned and well cooked. It had a pleasant texture and still retained some moisture, and with the rice and beans stuffed inside, this was one hefty burrito. All in all, a burrito that was mighty in both size and flavour.
Hats off to the bartender, the mojito and the “bartender’s margarita” were fantastic and surprisingly good value- they were very large drinks, which meant they were pretty good value for...
Read moreFOOD POISONING ALERT This had been of my favorite places in Capitol Hill until a recent incident. I came for dinner on a Sunday evening for my partners birthday. We had some tacos and seafood enchiladas. The food was very tasty, the atmosphere was very good, and the server was kind and attentive despite a very busy night. Everything was amazing until we walked out of the restaurant and started feeling really sick, despite being fine and healthy the whole day. Within the hour we were both suffering from stomach aches and puking everything we ate. Clearly the food that night had not been prepared up to normal health standards: my suspicion is that they did not keep the seafood cool enough during the day (especially the shrimp). We went back to let them know what happened, and the hostess told us that “the chef was not present and the food had been prepared earlier in the day, but that they would let the chef know the next day so they could be more sanitary next time”. No apology, no refund, nothing. It blows my mind how can they serve bad food, get people sick, and get away with it. If you want food poisoning, this is your spot. If you don’t, stay away from the seafood here (picture of the seafood enchilada), or better yet, stay away from...
