I've lived in Ballard for over 10 years now, regularly frequenting Mr. Gyros. The food is generally good, but level of care they show their customers is really poor. I don't normally write reviews sharing this type of feedback, but after every recent visit I question whether or not I will patron the establishment any longer as a result of the way in which I'm consistently treated by the employee (perhaps manager) who takes orders and runs the cash register. Never is there a hello to a customer who walks in, every response is short, and he consistently rolls his eyes at any request including a request for hot sauce. Most recently, I walked in 40 min prior to closing and the first and only words to me was, "ONLY Gyro meat!" If you're trying to call in 30 min prior to closing, forget about it because he won't pick up. The other employees give an occasional friendly smile, but not this employee. In this economy, with many small businesses struggling to stay afloat, there should be some level of care shown to customers who are trying to support our small businesses in Ballard. This employee has no regard - consistently treating customers as if they...
Read moreI ordered a Gyro sandwich and shawarma plate. Almost $40 after a small tip. Highly disappointing. The plate had rice that tasted like cinnamon really bad. Totally clashed with the rest of the flavors of the veggies and meat. I felt like I was eating cinnamon rice pudding, the only way I can describe it. It was also cold and hard.
The gyro was nothing great in my opinion. I've frequently gone to the shawarma restaurants in U district on The Ave and so that's mainly what I'm comparing Mr. Gyros to. The meat was plentiful but it was tough and just didn't have the flavor of typical gyros I've had all my life. Maybe I just went on a bad night for them but I probably wouldn't go back unless it was a last resort or something.
Aside from the food, the guy was not very friendly either. The storefront is run down, windows dirty, no place to sit either so it's to-go only. They have a bunch of random papers and some outdated events posters just taped on the wall. Don't expect any kind of ambiance if you walk in here.
I'd highly recommend any of the U district middle eastern/Mediterranean restaurants instead. They are all...
Read moreGratitude for Mr. Gyros, who did a catering order for a 50th birthday party we hosted yesterday. We arranged it with just under a week's notice, picked up yesterday (at their Wallingford location) and everything was so plentiful and tidily packed for transport, and we set up at our house for rave reviews from guests of all ages (with warming trays and sterno provided so it stayed fresh through the evening). I forgot to get a photo but imagine a buffet table full of chicken shawarma, lamb/beef gyro, falafel, hummus, tzatziki, baba ghanoush, salad, rice, pita. Great local business to support if you need yummy party food and aren't able to cook up a storm on your own. Thank you, Mr. Gyros.
p.s. Our favorite dish is the lamb shawarma salad, but that is something best ordered in-house and we'll be stopping in their Ballard location to enjoy more...
