I've heard a lot of good things about the fish & chips at this place, and it definitely did not disappoint
This spot is basically a bar - where the inside has the booths you'd associate with a classic bar, while the outside has more traditional tables This makes the inside an interesting vibe when I came here for a weekday lunch, but I didn't mind it
Their fish and chips comes with coleslaw and tartar sauce as well. What's interesting is that unlike the usual beer batter, the cod here is breaded with panko breading instead, and then deep-fried. This creates a very unique experience, something unlike I've had with fish and chips before; and it's pretty excellent The breading shines in particular. It's very consistent throughout - there's no missing spots anywhere on the fish. While I wouldn't say it's insanely crispy, it does create a good crunch throughout that's snappy and responsive to the teeth. The color is also a dark-ish brown, but not too dark. It's also not overly oily, which I like
The inside of the fish is also excellent. It's incredibly moist - they managed to not overcook this, while getting it to a good fry-level. It's very juicy and I enjoyed it a lot Fries (or chips) wise, these are also great. They're super soft on the inside, and salted extremely well. There's also just so many of them.
The coleslaw is surprisingly not super mayo-based, which was a relief. It had much more of a tangy taste from the acidity of the lime
The part I liked the most here was the tartar sauce, though. It was so amazing - the absolute perfect viscosity, amazing texture, the perfect amount of acidity & fat mixed together. Dipping the fish in this sauce created an entirely new experience than just having the fish on its own. It's easily the best tartar sauce I've ever had, and it's not close I had to ask for two cups to get through the meal because I was dipping it in so much
The fish pieces are pretty large, and the portion of fries is also considerable. With tax & tip, this comes out to around $20, which is honestly not bad given the portion size.
Overall, I haven't had better fish & chips anywhere else in the...
Read moreMy experience at this place was very disappointing and honestly concerning.
I came here today based on my friends’ recommendations and was very excited to visit. My partner and I rode our scooter from Capitol Hill to Fremont. As soon as I entered, a blonde woman behind the bar (who I believe was the bartender) immediately said, in a very harsh tone: "You cannot bring that here."
I politely responded: "I can fold it if you want." She ignored me. I repeated: "I can fold it, it’s okay?" She then looked at me and said: "I told you no."
I want to be very clear: there was absolutely no sign at the entrance stating that scooters were not allowed inside.
What made this experience even more troubling is that my friend, who is white like the bartender, has previously brought his bicycle inside with no issues. Meanwhile, my partner and I (both persons of color) were not even given the opportunity to fold or store the scooter. Instead, we were treated with immediate hostility and dismissal.
This kind of differential treatment raises serious concerns of discrimination based on race or national origin. In Washington State, this is a violation of: The Washington Law Against Discrimination (RCW 49.60) The Seattle Municipal Code (SMC 14.06) Federal Civil Rights Law (Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964)
As a customer, I expected fair and equal treatment, not to be singled out and treated differently based on who I am. Discrimination has no place in Seattle — or anywhere.
I have witnesses and evidence of the incident and will be taking further steps with the Seattle Office for Civil Rights and the Washington State Human...
Read moreThis place is a dive. If you accept that, carry on. Dive status aside, it's got some of the best fish and chips around and is a great place to have a beer or a casual cocktail.
The PI, as it is known by the locals, is a holdout, comfortable down to earth spot in a neighborhood that's rapidly gentrifying. Very little has been changed or updated in 20 years. If you're okay with that, you'll love it. If you're ready for a cocktail before noon, you also fit right in.
Good is great value, consistent execution of said fish and chips. Other food is very short order pub-style out of a fryer or a basic grill. The hot dog and other fried items are pretty good. My go-to is the fish and chips sub a Caesar salad.
Drinks are local beers, cheap wine, or strong well cocktails. With only cheap components, somehow they have one of the most solid whiskey sours around for the money.
If it's nice out, you can sit on the patio which doubles their total small space, but be warned.. make sure to order inside from the bartender! They'll bring you the food but will not take your order outside. The staff can be surly and you have to follow the rules to be here. I've seen them kick several people out...they're just that old school to have their own rules... God bless them
There's one pool table in the back. They'll have the sports game on if there's one that matters locally, otherwise it might be adult cartoons playing over the bar. Other entertainment consists of watching overdressed couples come in for a drink and squirm while they wait for a table at the hottest new resto across the street. Long...
