This place needs more love because it is SO good!! It's categorized as a "Thai" restaurant, but the dishes I have tried is reminiscent of the dishes my Malaysian mom used to cook for me. So it seems like their dishes are of the Thai-Malaysian / Southeast Asian mix? Either way, whatever they are doing in there, keep doing it because it's absolutely magic.
You can't go wrong with any of the dishes on their menu because they are all good. Here are our go-to's though:
PLAINTAIN CHIPS: so deliciously sweet and crispy! Great appetizer.
GUAY TIOW KHAEK: coconut curry broth with seafood and egg noodles. SERIOUSLY DELICIOUS!!! Some people said they didn't get enough shrimp, but I felt that there were plenty of seafood protein in there. The star of this dish is definitely the soup.
GUAY JUB: so, so special. Malaysians that have tasted this before know how painstakingly long it takes to make this herbal soup. It's one of a kind and you can't find this dish anywhere else in Seattle. A must try.
LAMB CURRY FRIED RICE: this dish never fails to disappoint us. You literally won’t be able to stop eating this.
BLACK RICE ICE CREAM: the best! the ice cream is always firm and the black rice is delicious and sweet.
We have been hitting this place up literally every weekend because it's so good! Each entree ranges from $13 up, but it's reasonably priced due to the portions you get. The portions are HUGE and you are guaranteed enough to take home for lunch the next day!
Service is absolutely fantastic as well. Tables are always clean and the dudes working the front desk are always super attentive and acknowledge every single person that comes in through the door. Always willing to help out with any questions you may have.
COVID - social distancing in place along with sanitized pens. Outdoor seating available. You can request for your cutlery to be in take-out style.
Love this place to death. The best restaurant serving the most authentic southeast asian cuisine in...
Read moreHere’s what happened at this place: I dined in, as I usually do, because this was one of my favorite spots in Ballard to grab a quick no frills delicious Asian soup or noodle dish. I was with one other, a party of 2. When the bill came, I noticed that a 20% auto gratuity was added. Ok, this wasn’t what was normal for this place, but I just let it be and didn’t tip any extra as this would have been the tip I would have given anyways. Well, when I saw my credit card charge, it was markedly higher than it should of been. I went down to the restaurant and asked to have that charge reviewed. It turns out an extra 20% was added ON TOP of the 20% auto tip. I was pretty upset as it appeared the final bill was tampered with. The server who served us was actually there, and he remembered me. He admitted that he thought we hadn’t left a tip and was explained how he was disappointed about it. In reality, he didn’t realize the auto tip had been applied (this was likely accidental). so in my best estimate, he decided to take it upon himself to add an extra 20% to the original bill, insisting to himself that he get this tip without my consent, not realizing that he already did get the 20% tip. This is fraud. He denied this, but I can’t figure what else could have happened. How could there be written in on the bill, after I left, an extra 20%, and it not have been fraudulent?
Needless to say, I was very upset that this was done, and I just don’t trust this particular server and it really left a bad impression of the entire establishment in my eyes. I was a regular, and I’m not sure I’ll ever go back. Trust...
Read moreCame here for a late lunch. Overall a great spot with modern southeast asian noodle dishes.
We got the yam rolls, thai tea, guay tiow nam with beef, and spicy sesame peanut tofu noodles.
The thai tea was tasty, although a bit sweet, pretty standard for a thai restaurant.
The yam rolls were essentially egg rolls with yams and noodles inside, which were crispy and tasty albeit pretty standard and a bit hot.
The spicy peanut noodles were not very tasty, and the sauce was a bit on the sweet side. The veggies and tofu were cooked well. The rice noodles were tasty although some of it was stuck together in big clumps.
The guay tiow nam had a very rich, flavorful beef broth and tender chunks of beef. The broth was tasty but a little on the sweet side for me. The meat was really high quality. I got flat rice noodles with it, which were thick and tasty, but again many of them were stuck together. The veggies were tasty as well.
Overall we really enjoyed stopping in, and the service was great and very kind and quick. I think just given the ratings and atmosphere I would’ve expected slightly better noodles. But still a great...
