After not going to the Doctorâs Office for at least two years, I was excited to take my lovely partner to her first cocktail bar in Seattle. I set the intention to provide a sophisticated and high end drinking experience before a nice dinner, and was ecstatic to return here.
I was very disappointed after making a reservation with a $50 downpayment in advance to show up and be presented with a cheap, glitchy tablet instead of a real conversation. I have never had a cocktail bar fail to measure up to a McDonaldâs ordering experience before. And then be pressured to make a drink order before we had even been able to process the menu.
Navigating the menu was incredibly painful. Each page in the app is a different cocktail, with a picture that is unrelated to the cocktail in question and just a general âbeing in a barâ vibe with a scant description of the drink at the bottom. I wouldâve killed for a paper menu & a sweet interaction with a personable human bartender.
We were also served hot towels at the same time that the tablet was dropped off. Within 5-7 minutes of sitting down, our âbartenderâ also asked us twice if we knew what we wanted and if he could take our complimentary towels away. Overall, making us feel very rushed as we were thinking this would be a comfortable and relaxing experience. We told him both times that we needed more time to decide.
I had the house twist on an old fashioned, it was fine. My partner, feeling rushed, ordered a Manhattan, that ended up being incredibly syrupy â she didnât even want to drink it.
My partner talked to the other bartender, and we finally had what I would consider to be a good and basic human interaction. She explained to him that she hated it and asked for a different cocktail. He finally worked with us, asking what we like & what we were expecting from our experience. I didnât understand at the time that when he said he could âjust make her a Sazeracâ that the vast majority of drinks at this bar are pre-batch made, making this essentially the bar aisle at PCC with extra steps and snobbery.
Unlike PCC however, once we got the Sazerac, we were informed that we had to finish drinking it within the next ten minutes so they give up our seats to the next batch of unwitting victims.
I was very disappointed in this experience, especially since with the $50 deposit for drinks, even after he thoughtfully comped the regrettable Manhattan, we still owed four dollars additionally for only two drinks. And none of them were particularly great. If you want to get disappointed by a cocktail bar in Seattle, there are plenty of places to do that for cheaper.
Probably the best part of the experience was exiting this shoebox of a bar and laughing to each other about how bizarre of an experience it was. Our joint conclusion was âwhat just happenedâ and ânever again.â
Unsurprisingly, I do not recommend this...
Read moreUnassuming on the outside but truly spectacular bar in the Cap Hill area. Clearly, a passion project for all involved. Andrew was the bartender on the Sunday night that we went. The bartender's knowledge and passion were extraordinary and the cocktails he mixed were inventive, unique and delicious! He greeted us with a tipple of champagne and a kind, warm, inviting professionalism that instantly put us at ease, safe in the knowledge that we were in good hands and going to have a fantastic evening. He asked us a few questions and immediately came up with perfect answers that matched our mood and taste preferences. My cocktail featured a butter-washed light whiskey -- I didn't even know that was a thing!! It was an amazing drink. He also made a drink that incorporated a handmade allspice and pineapple foam that was out of this world! He did a Spanish Coffee that was pure theatre and a delight to watch. There was also a surprising bit of education and exploration that went into the evening. He explained the cocktails and answered all of our questions. Endlessly knowledgeable, you could clearly see he loves the art of mixology. He would occasionally pour small samples of liquors to help teach our palettes about new flavors or beautiful liquors he wanted us to try. It felt generous and not like we were 'nickel and dimed' to death. It was truly an evening of watching a master at improv and play. The charcuterie board was delicious and thoughtfully curated to accompany and enhance the cocktails. I cannot say enough good things about this experience. Truly, they are masters, absolute masters. Unforgettable experience and such a beautiful vibe. Everything in this space was so obviously and wonderfully thought out and created to delight and deliver. Even the bathroom was cool! Ha! Make reservations because they only seat a small number each day. So, so, so worth the...
Read moreyooooo, you need to check out this bar if you want a good time. We came here during vacation on a Wednesday night and this was one of our favourite experiences in the city! Peter was our bartender and brings the type of energy we love in a bar. This is a great place for people who appreciate a good cocktail and want an intimate setting, but are also open to great banter with a bartender whoâs also having a good time themselves!
Drinks: this is the first bar weâve been to that is on tock. We were like âwhattttttt? Whyyyyy? Thatâs only for expensive restaurants but whatever, weâre on vacation. Letâs give it a tryâ It is $25 pp reservation but that gets deducted from your total bill. The menu was huge and felt really unique with all the descriptions. We had a fun time picking out drinks. We got the Manhanttan, Vesper, Spanish Coffee, bartenderâs choice, a flight of 4 glasses of Cognac, and a flight of 3 glasses of Mezcal. They were all made so well! My husband particularly liked the flights. He really appreciated how he could try different spirits in one setting, and how Peter was so knowledgeable about all of them and had fun creating these flights.
Service: it was great!!!! Itâs the type of place where the bartender gives people space but also welcomes good conversation. We felt that Peter went above and beyond to make sure that my husband and I had a good time. To put into context, we werent going to drink that much on a Wednesday night, but it was just too fun.
Atmosphere: very chill and vibey! The outside looks spooky but then you go through the doors, and you see how super cute it is! The bar has 6 seats, a small table for two and then a cute corner couch.
WOULD I COME HERE AGAIN?! Yes!!! This is a fun place for people who really appreciate a GOOD cocktail and want to be in an...
