A Hidden Gem in Sebastopol
On a recent weekend day drive past Sebastopol, I was determined to try a new place to eat, so I went to my trusted guide and friend Yelp on my mobile and decided on Inca's Peruvian Cuisine. The place is kind of hidden in a corner of a small shopping center off Gravenstein Highway, very close to where Petaluma Ave and S Main Street end.
Anyhow, we walked in, and the place was empty! We were the only ones there! Later, we learned that on Sundays, the crowd shows up at around 5 or 6 PM.
Inca's Peruvian Cuisine has been there for about one year. It offers a fusion of Indigenous Incan ingredients with influences from various cultures such as Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, and African! I know! It sounds like a mishmash of various cuisines, but it is surprisingly very good!
We started with a Peruvian beet salad (Causa Santa Rosa), sweet plantains (Platanos Maduros), and Ceviche (Clasico). Loved it all! I enjoyed all three, but if you forced me to pick only one, I'd go with the beet salad! It was tasty and different.
For the main dish, we decided to share a Lomo Saltado, which is wok-fried tenderloin beef (chicken is an option) with balsamic soy sauce mixed with red onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. It is served with fries and rice. We enjoyed it very much.
Throughout our visit, the staff was extremely helpful and very friendly. We really enjoyed the experience. I could not leave without trying their Tres Leches, and it did not disappoint!
As we were leaving, people began to show up. The place is small, but very nicely setup and maintained. The staff is wonderful and the food is delicious. Give it a try if you are...
Read moreInca's is the one restaurant I will choose again and again. I'm never not in the mood for it. We have only ordered to-go, and it has been delicious every time. We have ordered all the empanada flavors, but like the beef the best (toddler approved too). My husband likes the shrimp salad. The seasoning on the shrimp is so flavorful, it makes you want to eat it alone. I prefer the lomo saltado. The steak is cooked perfect every time. I do not care for soggy fries, but in the to go box, the drippings off the steak will seep into the rice and fries making them extra tasty (and not soggy).
I hope if they become more popular, they can move to a location where they can be more visible. I'm afraid people won't see them tucked in the back corner. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because it's a bit pricey, so we don't have it as often as I would like. But the food and service are...
Read moreWhile quite modest outside and in (tucked at the end of a strip mall), this restaurant was a big surprise. Starting with the beet salad, we were taken by every dish served. The food presentation is superb, the flavors sophisticated, creative, and elevated. We had the special Ceviche, made with fresh salmon, blood oranges, red onions and mangoes. It was bright balanced and very fresh. We also flipped over the cilantro soup with chicken. This is worth buying in bulk to take home and freeze for a rainy or sick day. There were too many desserts from which to choose, so we had their home made lucuma ice cream. Simple, but a flavor I've never had, topped with fresh berries. Yum. I will certainly return to explore the menu. It's big. There were 6 different ceviches alone! Not to speak of all the hot dishes. This...
