We decided to stop at Hilltop today (04/25/2023) to grab a sandwich and picnic out in Oak Creek Canyon. We don't live too far away, it's an enjoyable day trip for us and we had not yet tried this deli. The menu looked fantastic, reviews looked good and we were excited to try Hilltop. We're foodies, we try our new restaurants with an open mind, open tastebuds. First of all, the sandwiches are pricey, of course, inflation is the name of the game right now, I don't fault them for that. By the time we finished ordering two 12" sandwiches, potato salad, macaroni salad and two green teas, we were at $50. Ok, no big deal, we work smart so we can spend our cash on stellar, highly reviewed, foodie businesses. We don't have a problem paying for amazing food, so the price is negligible in our book...IFF (If and only if) everything is stellar. However, when the service is only at or less than par, we have no choice but to favor the review poorly so that the company can improve on their practice and we can come back to see if improvements have been made, especially if the food tastes great, before moving our money elsewhere. Our mistake was not checking that our sandwiches were what we ordered before we left the premises. Granted, we shouldn't "have to check" to verify our order is correct but, at this point, I would highly suggest checking your entire order before leaving to verify you received what you ordered. The # sandwich on the paper matched the # sandwich we had ordered. However, my husband, who had ordered a 12" (large) pastrami sandwich, received a 12" club sandwich with sprouts and avocado instead of the pastrami he was looking forward to eating. When the # of the sandwich matches what you order but is not the sandwich you ordered upon opening, that's a failure. Also, when the personable male server, who took our order, who also delivered our sandwiches, had forgotten that we ordered potato salad and macaroni salad too....that is a failure because it should be written somewhere on the ticket or on the sandwich which sides are included in the purchase of the order. Luckily, we did catch the salad error before we left on our picnic. My ham and Swiss was excellent, we could taste the high quality ingredients (worth the price) and the bread on both sandwiches was incredible. The potato salad was good but the macaroni salad was "meh". It was totally missing something (vinegar or something acidic), it really had no taste due to whatever it lacked. So, as much as we enjoyed the bread and the taste of the sandwiches themselves, this deli did not make our foodie grade due to the error with the taste of the mac salad and most importantly, the service. In order to be a good provider, at a high inflated cost, the company needs to deliver the correct product and a tasty product. We'll be looking forward to seeing how the reviews improve. Maybe the company was short staffed or having an off day, however, excuses don't bring...
Read moreWe stayed in an AirBnb in west Sedona and saw this place driving down the road. We decided it would probably be a good place to get some sandwiches for a hike we would do later in the week. I’m so glad we decided to do it! We decided to hike to Devil’s Bridge on our last day and stopped by here to get sandwiches to-go to pack in our backpacks. I was slightly worried that by the time we ate our sandwiches a few hours later that they would be soggy but they weren’t at all! They were so delicious and fresh! I added alfalfa sprouts to my turkey and Swiss sandwich and it really gave it a nice bit of crunch and freshness. We did made sure to get cold sandwiches with no oil and vinegar though, so I think that helped them stay nice and not soggy. My husband actually ordered a roast beef sandwich and when he opened it up it was turkey but he said it was so delicious he didn’t care. The man who served us was super friendly and fun. All around a good place to come if you’re hungry after a hike or need...
Read moreWell i really wanted to love this place but instead....... 2 out of 3 sandwiches were good not great but good. All 3 were dry and they forgot the cheese on one of them. They are close to being really good. Please step it up and you will have a regular customer. Reason for 3 stars and not 2 is the meat was very good as it should be. I will give it another month or two and give it another chance. I will update my review at that time. Part 2 UPDATE!!! Thank you Hilltop deli for stepping up their game!!! I would give them 10 stars if I could. Been there 3times in the last month and every time has been equally amazing… all I can say is YES!!!!!! Please keep up your high standards!! PART 3 I’m done with hilltop the inconsistency is horrible !!!! Literally looks like it was put together with leftovers…. No avocado crap onions and wilted lettuce!!!! Since part 2 of my review I have had bad experiences here ….. such a bummer they can’t get it right!!!! Just sad Sedona doesn’t have a...
