Over Priced Takeout
Positive : Very friendly waitress. Who is also the ONLY waitress there. I don't blame her for charging us $2 more for a vegan dish or never bringing us the extra napkins asked for because she is just over worked. And she absolutely deserve and earn the 20% tip.
Now the review
Since most of the restaurants here in town is based on seafood and streak, there aren't many choices for my wife who is a vegan. We looked for Asian cuisine since we know there may be more options than just salads. The place is about a 10 minutes walk from our hotel Harbor 360. When we arrived there was about 40 minutes wait. And although it's really busy they only have one waitress who also clears the table. (Again she was great) We were led to a very greasy table and the floor was greasy and sticky. I am a big fan of Asian cuisine and we have tried fantastic and very highly reviewed Thai restaurants around the world and the prices here are double the cost of the best Thai restaurants in NYC. Yet, I wouldn't have minded if the food was good. Unfortunately it wasnt. We ordered Kaeng Curry and Tofu Bah-Mee and an appetizer (Tofu Corn Cake). The corn cake was deep fried but overcooked. My wife's dish was way too salty and drowned in oyster sauce. So salty she only had half the dish and when asked of she wants to pack the rest she didn't (we always pack our unfinished food so we do not waste) My dish was actually ok. Its a normal yellow curry dish, no frills and a generous portion. Wasnt going to give this dish a negative review until i had the "runs" to the bathroom that night. This usually happens to me if the food is not fresh. To top everything off, we asked the two bust person for napkins twice and they never brought them, and my wife was charged $24 for her dish instead of $22 for her dish (which we just paid so we can get out of there because waiting to get the waitress and the bill was 20 mins and i cannot imagine the...
Read moreThis place is super busy as Thai food seems to be all the rage in Alaska. They're so in demand that their service suffers.
40 people in the restaurant served by one chef, one sous chef, and two servers who are seating, running, making drinks, busing, answering the phone, and cashing out.
I sat at the bar and ordered immediately. It was at least 10 minutes before I received my Thai iced tea. I watched as a table of four got up and left because of no service. 15 minutes later, my food came. Another table walked out because of no service. My panang curry wasn't good - too sweet, too high peanut sauce to curry ratio. It tasted like sweet peanut butter. A single person who came up and asked twice for a drink walked out.
I didn't finish my meal because the Thai flavor wasn't present. It didn't taste proper.
I commented to one of the two servers about them needing to hire some additional staff. She smirked and said, "We're doing just fine." She interrupted my cash out twice to answer the phone and talk with other customers.
I hope her arrogance keeps them...
Read moreThe menu indicates that mandatory gratuity is applied only to tables with six or more guests. However, we were surprised to find an automatic 18% gratuity added to our bill for a party of two. We opted not to pay the mandatory gratuity, and we remain perplexed as to why this establishment has garnered a rating of 4.4 out of 5. It's possible that the local residents here may not have had the opportunity to experience exceptional cuisine elsewhere, or perhaps this is the sole Thai restaurant in the area. During our trip through Alaska, we had the pleasure of savoring numerous outstanding meals, including an exceptional Thai restaurant in Fairbanks that far outshone this particular establishment. If you're averse to mandatory tipping or have alternative dining options, we recommend exploring those alternatives. However, if this is your only dining option and you haven't eat since morning like us, it...
