I went to the Brick House Restaurant in Sharonville Ohio on July 18, 2023. I frequently dine here with various friends, coworkers, and family. I am probably at this location 5-8 times a month. On this particular evening, I went with my oldest daughter, 26.
We noticed there were several other patrons at the restaurant which was nice to see that the restaurant was full and lively. My daughter and I sat down, and we were greeted by the server. We start to overhear a conversation between what appears to be a line cook and another patron. The (customer) woman was with her daughter I am guessing this child was between 6/7. They were a black family; I only mention race as in today’s climate we as a people must protect people of color and speak against blatant injustice and racism.
At first, I really thought this woman was trying to scam a free turkey sandwich. So, I rolled my eyes and continued to glance over the menu. However, it became obvious that she was just asking questions. Her questions were very legitimate questions: I thought the turkey club came hot. How do I order to ensure that I get hot turkey What cheese should I ask for to get it to melt because this cheese didn’t melt.
This is when the line-cook which now introduced himself as the owner became hostile toward this woman and her child. He used multiple curse words and threats toward this family. He called the police on this woman and child and told them to leave. This woman is trying to get her small child from the high-top table to leave but he is standing between this lady and her child. The woman is trying to protect her child from this craziness and get her out the door. Was she yelling back at this man, no was she talking loud and directly as she should have been with her child in danger.
This woman and child were verbally assaulted, by this man. He was within 8-10 inches of this 6/7 year old child, screaming threats and obscenities. When the child said don’t talk to my momma this way and this man screamed at this child the owner/line cook called the child ‘sir’ and continued to verbally abuse this child and her mother. Once the woman gets the child and starts toward the door, he continues to follow them out the door screaming at them he already called the police. My daughter and I left in disgust and solidarity with this family. This man was preventing this woman from putting her child in the car so she could leave as he had requested her to do because ‘he wanted her license plate number’. The owner/line cook turned to us and said this woman was the issue: this woman was not the issue the owner/line-cook was clearly the issue. This man left a core memory for this child of violence and anger. This man behavior toward this family was unacceptable. With gun violence and police brutality the safety of this family was at risk. Why would you call the cops on a black woman and her child that clearly posed no threat to you? This is how innocent people get shot. You sir were/are the aggressor. I felt unsafe for my daughter. I felt unsafe for this woman and her child, and I felt unsafe for myself.
I read through reviews online and there was a review from ‘Kevin’ that mentioned this exact behavior. Apparently, this behavior is habitual and routine at this establishment. I do not care who the owner is if it is this line-cook or someone else. The owner clearly allows this type of behavior.
This man said I am trying to protect my business…. but what was the threat? A free turkey sandwich? I will choose to protect this woman and child from an obvious threat, you. Your menacing behavior was the only behavior that was questionable. MENACING is the making of threats to another and causing the other person to believe that the threats are real.
This woman and her child deserved to be treated with respect and feel safe while they...
Read moreWhat a beautiful establishment and I loved the food here BUT they are getting down right ridiculous on the skimpy carry-out portions. When they first opened I went there and as I sat down I saw the waitress go by with a HUGE Spinach and chicken salad . When I inquired about the salad I was told the ingredients which I did not care for the fruit (cranberries and apples) but the waitress quickly told me I could substitute those items for any other salad ingredient. Every since I have, at least twice a month (sometimes more), called and ordered that salad. The price is $9.50 but as I said the portion was huge so I also ordered it divided into 2 cartons with an extra dressing. This was a healthy 2 day lunch. A few months ago I noticed they were putting LESS in the cartons which was bothersome so I actually stopped ordering them for a while. Today I got an out of control craving so I placed the call. When I arrived there were only 2 couples sitting at tables and a man at the bar and the waitress was texting on her phone under the cash register screen which I'm sure makes it look like she's actually working and at first it was no big deal, we are all guilty of allowing devices to preoccupy our attention from time to time but she actually looked up, smiled and said I'll be right with you and proceeded to text for at least 60-90 seconds followed by a little giggle (as if proud of her handy work at the text she composed) before coming over to ask how she could help me. Being irritated with this I simply paid, got my bag and left. When I got to my office and went to pull a carton out there were 2 but they were the size of a hamburger box. Inside was not even full of salad. What a rip off! A mere hand full of baby spinach, a couple strips of a very small piece of chicken, a pinch of bacon and a tiny pinch of the remaining ingredients. I find charging $9.50 for salad a bit much but if its worth it why not; to charge that amount and serve less than a McDonalds side salad is NOT the way to stay in business. After this experience and reading the other reviews I can't see this working...
Read moreOUTSTANDING FOOD!!!! Ok, it's a bar.... that's just a plus to me. Went on a whim a year or two ago, it was pretty good... went again late last year, after new management took over..... and... BOY what a difference a year makes. Haven't missed at least a visit a week since. You will be surprised by the level of food coming from this "bar"'s kitchen! I am told it's all made in house, I have no reason to doubt it.
At the very least, go have a beer and a plate of the buffalo chicken eggrolls. I was blown away the first time I had them and started searching for them frozen, online, etc... no dice. Found out they made them there... Just get them. You'll understand!
The wings are big and meaty and served just right! The Tenders are as good as anywhere in the city (I eat a LOT of tenders!) but truly much better than most! I am not a fan of fries, but the fries here are something truly special, crunchy but not dry... just get 'em and I'll shut up!!
The Fish sandys are top shelf as well, the BBQ Chicken salad? Again, on the spot.
OK, OK, you get it, I like this place! I don't even drink!!! The staff is hometown bar friendly, they know me and have my Dr. Pepper on the way when I hit the bar.
Great great surprise here guys... Give it a try for lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed!!
Andrew and Nicholas Stanford, SMS Garage Sharonville!!
Ok, EDIT!!! I haven't said enough! Fettuccine Alfredo, get it with chicken and scarf it down with the garlic toast points! Salads are ALL good. Burgers are as good as burgers get! Wraps, also good, Pretzel stick apps? yep. Mac and Cheese is great, broccoli steaming on point, other specialties are also good. Daily lunch specials, etc. etc. etc....
