Visited Honest Indian Vegetarian Restaurant on 1295 Lebanon Road in Sharonville, OH 45241, in March 2022. The place was pretty empty, except a few people there while we dined in.
We ordered 1 Plain Dosa, 1 Paneer Tikka Masala, 2 Butter Rotis, 1 Chana Bhatura, 2 Mango lassies, and 1 Sweet Lassi. Made a very low spice level preference for the main entrees when we made the orders.
After a pretty long wait, the orders started coming in. A young lady assisted us, and she seemed nice. The Plain Dosa and the coconut chutney were pretty good. The Sambar, as well served along with the chutney for the Dosa, was very spicy. The Chana Bhatura came, next and boy, the Chana was so spicy and oily that it made me sniffle and even brought tears to my eyes! The Mango Lassi was pretty good.
I was ready to pay, and I was asked by Sahil to make the payment at my table. I made the credit card payment, including tips. It was only after this that we made the orders for 1 Mango Lassi and a Sweet Lassi, as previously mentioned.
I had to go to the counter to pay for the extra drinks purchased. To my great surprise and huge disappointment, I was told that the earlier payment which I made didn't go through, and I had to pay the same total amount again. I had clearly made the full payment, signed it off and authorized it, and had even seen the payment going fully through! The explanation provided was that they were having issues with their payment system, and it was still being looked upon. I was obviously being double charged! I told the person at the register that it should have been timely fixed for her potential customers and that I would dispute the double charges made with my credit card company. They didn't even apologize.
I followed up with my credit card company promptly, and they agreed to take it up with the Merchant to earn a refund for myself. I updated Honest soon as well regarding the call made. The Manager with whom I spoke didn't once again, as before from my previous experience, apologize either! The Manager was very rude and asked me to pursue the dispute even after the whole fiasco. Very, very poor customer service indeed!
In conclusion: The hotel should have been called, "Dishonest Indian Vegetarian Restaurant" and not, "Honest!" This is strictly from the experience which I had at the restaurant. It happened to be my first visit and I haven't visited the...
Read moreThe dining area was clean. I only saw Indians visiting, which is a sign that the food is authentic since many Americans lack the refined palate needed to enjoy the true flavors of India. The server was pleasant, patient, and helpful, but she didn't check on us during the meal.
I usually order something like chana (chickpeas) masala but I asked her for recommendations, so I got the veg. kolhapuri curry ($14), which included a modest bowl of long-grain basmati rice, and 2 pc. vada pav ($7.50). I also ordered onion kulcha ($5), which is flat wheat bread with purple onions baked into it, making it a healthful, but bland, option, and perfect for dipping into your food. They don't have other types of kulcha. The curry tasted very nice but was extremely oily to the point that when I dipped the kulcha in, I got more oil than curry on it. I spooned out as much of the oil as I could, about 1/3 cup, and spooned the curry onto my kulcha, which I enjoyed. The basmati rice that came with the curry was minimally moist (fully cooked), as is common for Indians.
My daughter got cheese butter masala ($15), which she liked but the very even flavor of it eventually made her bored - she prefers a varied flavor, so that's her issue alone. She enjoyed some garlic naan ($3.50), too.
My son got Dry Manchurian ($10), which neither of us liked because it was very salty. It was balls of dough in a Chinese sauce with some veggies. He didn't finish it. He also got veg. Hakka Noodles ($10), which he liked although he didn't care for the veggies not being cooked until soft. I told him that's normal for Chinese food like that. He also got fresh lime soda ($4), which was lightly sweet and nice.
Afterwards, I had to wave the server over and she brought the bill and left. I then had to wave and wave to get containers, but neither she nor the man at the counter noticed since they were so busy talking to a family. Only the Guatemalan busboy noticed and helped us. When I mentioned to the server that the DM was very salty, she said she would've had the chef make it again if I'd told her - but she'd never come by to even check on us. I also mentioned the excessive oil and she said next time to let them know to reduce the oil.
I might come back except my kids don't want to and I felt like the prices were a bit high. If you're Indian, I suspect you'll find this an...
Read moreWe visited yesterday second time and experience was worst then first visit. First time we were told that they are over whelmed with orders and new.
Now thought they have been settled and everything many be in order. So we visited once again with family, they were at the same in service.
We order food comes cold and claimed by owner they server one dish at a time then how come it is cold. We order second round.... They send the gravy dish first and then dosa and forget to serve the Naan. By the time (25 mins later)gravy dish was cold we try to eat and finished.
When I asked what happened to my naan... Owner says let me check... Have to told him that... Now don't serve the Naan... As I do not have anything left to eat with. Mean time their Head chef... Comes out with the naan in hand with lots of attitude .... Here is your naan.... When I told him that it is too late for us as we finish all the thing and please it back.... "In presence of his owner he says.. change your attitude of refusing food that you order in Desi style...." Then owner realize that it is his mistake and chef utter wrongly...
They need to work on their...
Spice level when we says mild or babymild.... Then they serve regular or spicy food... So their Rude Chef must need to work on his spice level skills instead of showing attitude to customer rather then hiding his own mistake of forgetting the dish...
