Okay food brought this from a 1-star to a 2-star experience.
Concessions: we had a large group, ignored some advice from the manager, and I also understand COVID has absolutely wrecked the service industry.
We arrived and were quickly seated outside. The manager warned us there would be flies (this is what we ignored). We had a dog with us (good thing: dog-friendly patio) so we wanted to be able to eat together. Our waitress was quick to get to us.
Things very quickly went downhill. Our waitress tried doing too much from memory and then had to ask for clarification. Multiple drink orders came out that were incorrect. Servers: please write down orders! The chances of getting things wrong far outweighs any impressiveness of using your memory.
The troubles continued with our food orders. Of the 10 of us present, only about 1/3 of us DIDN'T have something wrong with our order. This ranged from the wrong side to the wrong type of wings and everything in between. The food was also fairly slow to arrive.
The food itself was...okay. A step above your typical chain sports bar cuisine but nothing to write home about.
The flies were insane. One in our group ran (literally) to a nearby hardware store and purchased fly traps. 100s of flies landed on them during our meal and we ended up leaving the traps to aid future guests. I appreciated the manager warning us about the flies but he needs to encourage the owners to invest in some form of bug mitigation system.
Our waitress was a sweetheart but her issues did not stop with the lack of notes. When it came time for tickets, we had glaring issues with the checks across the board. She ended up re-taking our orders (yes, from the start) and we waited a while for another round of tickets. The next round had errors, as did the next, as did the next!! She did mention she had just arrived at work when she was given our table and seemed overwhelmed.
Yes, indeed, the fourth round of tickets still had a few errors. We ended up cutting our losses and paying. By this point, one in our party had gone for the manager. He came out but seemed reluctant to do so. Instead of apologizing to us, he just brought up the flies again. Zero discounts were offered, nothing was comped. What should have been a 45 minute lunch turned into...
Read moreI seriously debated putting up less stars, but in the end I think they were trying to get it right. This is not a "new" establishment, they have been around for a while. I don't expect the sort of mistakes they were making with a restaurant that has been up and running as long as Native's. We were there for a club meeting. It's not a great place for that as there is too much noise even though it was one of the slower evenings. (Recommended as slow by the manager...) They did put us in the back around the corner so it did help. As it turned out another club was having their meeting and we actually bumped them out of the room. Not cool. I paid $23 for a sampler platter and one beer. I was not impressed in the least with my sampler platter and for $14 I should have had considerably more. If it would have been warm that would have been a treat also. Oh, and they were out of zucchini and wanted to substitute 2 cheese sticks for it. (Actually, the cheese sticks weren't bad, just cold.) One of our members had to send a calzone back twice as it was very well done on the outside and the inside was completely raw, twice. The third time it was done much better, but by then everyone else was done eating. They did comp her the calzone...that is part of the reason I raised the rating from one to two stars. In the end we voted to never go there again as a group and I'm not likely to go there personally either. $7 for an average sized beer is insane and $13 for crappy, and cold, appetizers was not enough to entice me back. I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience and was a little embarrassed for picking it out. I might have given one more star, but the manager said he had to be careful what he substituted in my sampler platter because it would cost too much money. I would never say that to a customer, especially in a group. There are too many people to upset at one time. Our waitress was OK...she was at least pleasant and wasn't the cause of any of the issues. That's why I...
Read moreI went there for lunch today, 2/23/17. I ordered the Native Stripper Platter, my wife got a chicken salad and my son got a House Calzone. I know my son enjoyed the Calzone because he basically inhaled the entire thing before our server came and checked on us. My wife had the salad before (she is the only one who had previously been here.) She enjoyed her salad. Initially, I did not want to complain or make a scene; but our server asked how everything was and I mentioned my chicken was "rubbery" and tough. The seasoning was fantastic and the fries on the side were great as well. Our server didn't waste any time and said, "I will have them remake your chicken if you don't like it." A few minutes later General Manager Jai Rocha arrived with a fresh plate of chicken strippers. They were excellent this time. I don't fault the establishment for my "tough" chicken the first time. Anyone who eats chicken knows sometimes the chicken is just not that great. The flavoring was spot-on both times. Jai also comped my chicken stripper meal, which in my opinion went way above and beyond what should be expected from quality service. I felt I should still pay for all three meals; but he insisted and I humbly accepted. I don't write reviews often; in honesty, hardly ever. However, due to the exceptional service we received and how great everything turned out to be, I felt obligated to share my personal experience with this restaurant. We have lived in Sierra Vista for nearly 8 years and sadly, this is the first time I have visited Native. We only have a few more months left in the area; we will be back to this place. This staff assured me if there is an issue, they will do all they can to correct it and make you feel valued as a customer. Good service is hard to find; but I can say for certain, great service can be found at the Native Grill in...
