I've enjoyed visiting The Baker's Daughter since they opened, but unfortunately, I've noticed a drop in quality over the past six months. I usually order the avocado tartine, and while their sourdough is typically excellent, theres something inconsistent about their other dishes. Especially the Avocado Tartine. In the past, it used to be bright green, and the flavors were all very apparent. Now it tastes old like avocado that's been sitting out for too long that appears browned, or the toppings like pumpkin seeds, onion, and radish are sparse. The bread thickness also varies--thin one day, quite thick the next.
Today's experience was also less welcoming than usual. The cashiers used to be very friendly, but now they seem a bit overwhelmed. The cashier helping me didn't offer a greeting or thank you, which felt uncharacteristic of the place. I had hoped to order lunch, but since I arrived at 10:45 a.m., I was told I couldn't place a lunch order until 11. So, I defaulted to my usual breakfast order and quickly left to get coffee elsewhere, as I've stopped ordering coffee here due to frequent unavailability of the Vietnamese coffee ingredients.
When I returned to pick up my order, the same cashier handed it over without any pleasantries. Unfortunately, when I got home, I found the toast was charred, which I found pretty unreasonable, especially for a $15 item. We all work hard for our money, and while I know they're an artisanal business, putting out less-than-top-quality food at this price point is disappointing. I wish I'd checked before leaving, but being in a rush, I didn't realize until I got home, where the burnt taste was all too apparent.
If you're ordering to go, I'd recommend double-checking your order to ensure it meets the quality...
Read moreI have wanted to try The Baker's Daughter for a while now, but they are closed on my days off from work. Today, the stars aligned, and I was able to meet some friends for breakfast. All I can say is wow! I can't wait to go back.
Everything looks so delicious and inviting. I ordered the Green Eggs & Prosciutto Tartine and a lavendar latte. The latte was perfect. The lavendar flavor was very subtle but enough to give the latte a nice flavor. My tartine was delicious. The flavors of the pesto, ricotta, prosciutto, and egg blended beautifully together. The sourdough bread was the perfect base. My friend ordered the Croque Madame and was very pleased with her order. She commented that the flavors melded well together. I also ordered some Pao de Queijo, which is a small cheese roll. It reminded me of something I had in Argentia called chipá, which is very similar. These were cheesy and delicious. I would go back just for these alone - they brought back memories of my time in Argentina.
The service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and made sure we were taken care of. You order and pay at the counter, and they will bring the food to you. There are some community style tables you can sit at inside and a few tables outside.
They were baking and selling bread consistently the couple of hours that I was there. Each day, they have different breads available. Their Instagram account is a great place to get all of the info you need about what is available. There were also different pasties and cakes to choose from. They were baking fresh croissants when we left.
Like I said, I can't wait to go back. This is such a lovely little bakery in Simi Valley that I hope sticks around for...
Read moreI make a point of visiting business's that are not chains as the quality of the food and customer service is always excellent; in Simi Valley, being a place that doesn't draw many "from scratch restaurants" I was excited when the Baker's Daughters opened. So, I hesitated to write a less than stellar review because I want them to stay.
You'll see from the reviews, that overtime the quality and customer service has declined. I adore the food; the pistachio croissants, ham and cheese croissants, the Brazilian cheese bread made from semolina flour (which I personally ate in several South American countries and this took me back to that time) as well as the amazing sourdough bread they make fresh daily.
And yet, the last 3 times I have gone in, the cashier looked annoyed, does not smile and I was dismayed as one young lady in the morning told me that on Mondays the baked goods would be ready "whenever the staff had time".
Paying a premium for quality products made from scratch is something I am happy to do but being treated as if my presence is an annoyance and the fact that they do not have items available is my fault is simply unacceptable. And I hope the owners do something to ensure their...
