I know why this ‘hidden gem’ isn’t busy, as one reviewer wrote: they don’t communicate what the food is.
My only previous experience with Ethiopian food has been at Disney World’s Boma, so I can’t say that I’m familiar with authentic Ethiopian cuisine, and I don’t live in Sioux City, I just visit occasionally. We’re looking for somewhere to have a late lunch. Online, there is nothing related to Mesob that gives me any insight into what this restaurant serves, what it tastes like, or what I or anyone else in my party might like to try. It shouldn’t be any surprise that in the middle of the Midwestern United States, few looking for a place to eat are going to intuitively know what these words mean or what we are looking at in the photos; I only vaguely know what fufu is from having eaten at Boma several times, and I don’t even know if what I’ve had was authentic or not. Mesob, are your different dishes savoury? Sweet? Mixed? Am I looking at a vegetable? A bread? A meat? If I go to your restaurant, do you have descriptions on the menu that are easy to understand, or would I have to play a guessing game like I am online? Why is having lunch being turned into something like figuring out puzzles in an escape room?
I can’t speak to the service, but the online atmosphere is clearly stating that unless you’re already familiar with the cuisine and this restaurant, you’re unwelcome. Okay, then; I’ll go elsewhere. Best of...
Read moreMost people will not like this restaurant... That said, I've never had Ethiopian food. Honestly, the meat was overcooked, but to be fair, I came in after 10pm. Very nice people! The food was not terrible and I loved the sauces that came with the it! As of now, they are under construction, so don't expect fine dining. The food was very highly priced. Glad to contribute though, I hope they make it a great restaurant. I will give them another chance next time I'm...
