I came in to place an order for take-out. There was a gentleman and his son in front of me. At first all seemed normal. Then out of nowhere a man came barging in demanding a sandwich. Interrupting the transaction at the counter as well as the employees that were working. One employee, whom appeared to be an Assistant Manager, asked the man for his receipt and to clarify exactly what he was missing. This man at the counter was more than hostile. Slapping the counter, yelling profanity and pacing back and forth. It was getting really chippy and honestly I nearly left the store. The assistant manager, I think, asked him to leave and eventually he did. This customer I think has possibly come in before and potentially done something similar because he seemed to know someone’s name. This man was really upset and his demeanor was very threatening. Employees all around remained calm and handled it exceptionally well considering everything.
But then right as I was about to finally place my order after the first angry man left everything took a turn for the worst. A door dasher comes in and again cuts me off. She informs an employee that she is here to pick up an order. The employee, Alexis, politely informs her that she will have to provide the cashier with the order so that it can be made fresh. She continues that it’s the policy so that the food can be at its best. To me all of this sounds completely reasonable but to this woman the world has surely ended, the rapture has occurred, and she wasn’t invited into heaven.
This woman begins to chew Alexis out. Demanding to speak to manager. Her voice is ever raising and her attitude begins to be more and more hostile. Pointing and demanding. She follows by insulting Alexis because of her job title and pay rate. Telling her to know her place. I couldn’t believe how aggressive this woman was being all because of a door dash order. Seemed like she just wanted to yell at someone.
The Manager, Jennifer, comes over to try and deescalate the situation. She repeats verbatim the same thing that Alexis tried to explain to this door dasher. The door dasher begins to demand her name and store number. Attempting to act like she’s somehow been wronged by the store. Telling her that Alexis was out of control. I chimed in finally and told this woman that she was out of control. It was absolutely insane. I’ve never witnessed human to human behavior like this in real life. The door dash employee finally left and Jennifer immediately called door dash support to report everything that had just occurred.
In conclusion this door dash employee was baiting Alexis and trying to make her angry. Alexis answered the questions calmly and was only trying to help the guest. She did not deserve to be attacked and insulted the way she was. I stayed and made sure I told her that. I spoke with Jennifer to get information on how I could share this absolutely crazy story.
Lastly I will be making attempts to try and report this occurrence to door dash because this is just simply not okay on any level. Customers felt threatened as well as employees. I nearly called the police when the gentleman was demanding a sandwich slapping the counter and then I wish I had once the door dash employee came inside acting erratically.
Simply put. An employee for door dash was in the wrong. She’s supposed to go through the drive thru and place the order and pick up and go on her way. She didn’t want to wait in line in the drive thru and cane inside cut us off and then proceeded to not get her way. Once that happened I guess she believed aggression and hostility would get her what she wanted.
After working in fast food for 5 years myself and restaurants overall for nearly 10 I can confidently say that I empathize with these employees. People are nasty. Fast food workers often get the brunt of it especially around the holidays. I just wanted to provide this statement to clarify anything if clarification was needed. Alexis and Jennifer seemed like great people just trying to...
Read moreI had the most interesting experience tonight at the Spring Rd. location out in Smyrna. I ordered a Son of Baconator in drive thru with the intentions of redeeming my points for the sandwich. I got to the window to redeem the points and I was told by this tall black guy with that had an accent, that the total of my sandwich was $3.19. I explained that I was using the points. He scanned my phone and told me that I had no points. He then repeated the price. I explained to him, again, that I was only redeeming. He went on about I had no points but went to scan my code, again, anyways. He continues to explain I didn’t have points. I attempted to show him that the points were there on the app. He proceeds to tell me to calm down. I replied brother I’m calm. I asked for a manager and the guy told me that what I needed to understand was there were no points and I needed to calm down. At that point, I was then getting agitated and asked again for a manager. The guy then say’s that I wasn’t listening and goes on to close the window on me and got the managers attention through the headset. A manager walked back and asked what was wrong and I explained that I was using the code to redeem points. The manager explained that it wasn’t working and to hang tight at the window. I told her that would be fine. From there, the black guy that I was originally talking with, pulled another crew member to the side and was talking about me and the situation to him WITH THE DRIVE THRU WINDOW OPEN! LOL I was blown away!!!! I tried calling the cashier over to the window and he walked over and told me to hush talking. And, to stop talking to him. He closed the window, locked it and walked away. It was at that moment that I knew either to leave and let it go or just to get stores info to report the cashier. I pulled away from the window and went inside and asked for a manager. I explained to the manager what happened and asked for the information needed to file a formal complaint. He was more than willing to help and gave me the information needed. He then went on and explained that it was an error in their system and gave me the sandwich. At this point, I really didn’t even want it. I felt so disrespected and I’m still in awe, trying to figure how did we even get HERE. lol I have been working in the restaurant industry for 21 years. I have experience in both corporate and restaurant settings. I would NEVER treat a guest so disgustingly and portray the issue to be that they are the problem. I spend money at this location at least 3 times a week. This is ridiculous and I feel so...
Read moreWent through the drive through this evening to order a Dave's Double. I signed up online prior and noticed "online as a first customer" I pulled through the drive through to inquire about the online order...there was a male that came on and said..."WHAT!" "What do you want! Do you GOT a QR CODE?" When I proceeded to order he was very nasty...then proceeded to tell me, "we can't help you if you don't have a QR code!" I then said no problem I will order a Dave's double nothing extra. He stayed silent...After me asking a total of 4 times, did you hear me, he then says, yeah! I pulled around and asked the first window, the older man there said no it wasn't him...the second man came up and said it wasn't him.
I pulled up to second window the female showed up and came to the window. I gave her all the background information and I asked if she knew who the person was… Then comes the male... Young guy with locks comes around and I asked why was he being so rude? I said, you need to understand, you don't talk to customers the way that he was talking to me and he proceeded to tell me that there was only three people working there and he did not have time to talk to me about a sandwich they were busy making other sandwiches. I attempted to let him know you can't treat people any kind of way that I have left my home with great intention of only purchasing a sandwich, but that I went online to make it a quick order and noticed there were some offers if he could not help me there was a better way of explaining it. He proceeded to talk loud and talk out of order to me through the window while the female was very entertained by him and laughed out loud at the situation.
This review is for the owner and the manager. There is a certain amount of etiquette in training food servers. This male needs more training obviously.
At the age of 15, I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Dave Thomas; if he or his family knew his business was being represented by employees like this, he would not appreciate it.
This world is nasty and evil enough... as people and especially Black people, we need to be very careful how you treat each other. This was a terrible experience and I...
