If you are looking for an upscale spot in the “Assembly Row”, you’ve got to try Salt + Stone! It’ll become your new favorite spot!
Salt + Stone has a vast menu with fresh seafood, steaks, handmade pastas, burgers, flatbread pizzas, locally sourced salads, and soup.
They have a great raw bar with fresh oysters, little-neck clams, shrimp, and more!Their seafood platter offers a taste of everything. I look forward to trying it on my next visit here! Yes, I said it. This is my new go-to spot.
Their menu does lean heavily on seafood, given you are in Boston. However, there is plenty of options on the menu for those who aren’t a fan of seafood.
I booked a reservation for brunch, as it was Mother’s Day. I booked a 1PM slot, which was perfect. The inside was hopping, very busy. Luckily, it was gorgeous outside, so we decided to eat on their enclosed patio. In my opinion, it is much more open sitting outside. It felt a bit claustrophobic inside with how busy it was.
We started with some raw oysters. They were incredibly fresh. I always love to top mine with horseradish-cocktail sauce and Tabasco. They had all the accoutrements. I look forward to coming back for $1 oysters.
For brunch, we ordered the Egg’s Benedict. What can make Eggs Benedict better? Lobstah. We both added lobster to our Benedict. The lobster was fresh and delicious- generous portion too. If you want to mix it up, they offer the option to add smoked salmon, avocado, or Canadian bacon.
We mistakenly ordered a side of the smashed red potatoes, not knowing the eggs Benedict came with a side already. It’s okay, they were delicious. Cooked perfectly and fully through. Seasoned perfectly. A must-add to the brunch table!
The lobster Benedict was THE BEST I have ever had. The English muffins were perfect and held up just fine to the mountain of lobster, egg yolk, & hollandaise sauce. The eggs were done perfectly. The hollandaise sauce was rich, but not overpowering to the dish. Many places totally drown it in hollandaise. They have the sauce to eggs Benedict ratio down pat! All the rich ingredients were perfectly balanced.
As I mentioned, the portions are very generous, without sacrificing quality. As we sat on the patio we watched food come out. The burgers are large enough for two. The salads are massive and easily makes two meals.
Their cocktail program is equally impressive. They have a very cool Bloody Mary Flight available during brunch. However, I decided to go with the “Brunch Punch”. A delicious mix of Tito’s, Prosecco, Peach Schnapps, Crème De Mure, & OJ.
The pours are very generous and the cocktails are all incredibly unique. The Executive Mimosa is also a must try for those who want to take the mimosa up a notch. Prosecco, Tito’s, & Orange Juice. If you’re coming with the ladies, they offer a few of their cocktails in a “tower”. Plenty for two or more to share after a long day.
If you aren’t a fan of craft cocktails, they have a wide selection of craft beers, “frosé”, and a Margarita Flight. For those who prefer wine, they have a solid wine selection. The beverage program here is incredibly unique and top-notch.
Service was top-notch. The reservation was on-time with no issue or wait. Our server was attentive and ensured we were well taken care of. When asked where the oysters were from, she had the answer without skipping a beat. Clearly, the owners are truly committed to delivering a top-notch experience.
We never felt rushed or hurried. Being slow eaters, they happily spaced everything out so everything wouldn’t arrive at once. The owner personally thanked us on our way out.
I can’t wait to come back for $1 oysters and happy hour appetizers. I look forward to making this my new go-to in Boston. I can’t wait to try the burgers, French onion soup, handmade pasta, & the lobster roll. I could go on and on. There isn’t one bad item on the menu.
They truly delivered a five-star experience. Thank you for making Mother’s Day special. My mom absolutely loved the place and can’t wait...
Read moreWe were so excited to try Salt + Stone after walking by so many times. The interior is gorgeous, and the menu is unique and sophisticated. It was such a let down. First, we were sat inside (we wanted to sit outside, but the two hosts who seemed pretty inexperienced didn’t ask us if we wanted to and before we got a chance to ask, took us to a table. They did ask if we wanted to sit at the bar, even though the entire restaurant was basically empty). It took us at least 10 minutes to get water and be greeted. I work at another restaurant, so I’m normally pretty lax when it comes to service, but there were at least 8 servers/bussers standing around on their phones. The hosts and bartenders also all had their phones out. When we finally were greeted, our server played the classic “nobody has gotten to you yet?? I’ll take care of you!” which we all know means she didn’t realize she got sat. She wasn’t personable at all and didn’t talk about the menu whatsoever. Our appetizer took 25 minutes to come out, and she did apologize, saying that the kitchen was slow. A man who I assume was a manager brought it over and said the kitchen missed the ticket. They did take it off of our bill, which we appreciated! As soon as we were done, our next course was ready. We could actually see our food sitting there on the shelves for a few minutes. I got the fig jam and prosciutto pizza, and my partner got the mushroom chicken. His chicken was cooked perfectly but was nothing special. My pizza was great for the first few bites but was sickly sweet after that. We also noticed that they reaaaally love to throw unnecessary amounts of lettuce onto their plates as garnish, but we just picked it off. When we paid, she said have a good night as she was walking away. It was honestly the worst service I have ever gotten at a restaurant. The worst part was the fact that it was empty. She got another table at some point next to us and actually talked them through the menu, including a special where if you get the drink, the restaurant donates to charity. That would’ve been nice to know! Overall, we liked the food and want to try it again, but will probably opt for takeout. I went into my work the next day and told my manager that the menu was awesome and the first thing he said was, “great food, terrible service.” What a thing to be known for! The female manager was sweeping while everyone else stood around chatting and on their phones. Altogether it was just a bad experience. And, we found ourselves pretty turned off that one of the bartenders with long, curly hair had her hair down and another server with long brown hair also didn’t...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. This is by far the most disgusting and worse restaurant I have ever been to in my life. I have eaten at this restaurant 3 times and my sister wanted to go again tonight, and I am telling you it will be the last. I just contacted the City of Somerville regarding my experience. Tonight, I went to Salt and Stone, and when my sister and I walked in very pleasantly. I asked if there were any tables available. The hostess said that all the tables were already reserved. The last few times I had been there they tell people tables were not available and to wait for a long time. Then, magically tables are available, and they wait on people 3 hrs later. Next when we were taken to the bar, I noticed there were dirty plates, and a used cup with straw sitting on the table. The waitress didn’t even bother to clean it up until 15-20 mins later after I asked them to please clean it up. So disgusting and disrespectful and rude. I don’t know why I didn’t complain and leave right away. Then, the waitress took 30 mins to bring plates, the appetizer, and drinks that we asked for. She completely forgot about us and went behind the bar to make drinks. So unprofessional and rude. This is not the 1st time they’ve done this. I didn’t even want to look at her after that. I didn’t have my car and I was very hungry so I didn’t leave right away. I had to ask another waiter to bring plates and a status on the food. That’s when the waitress came back to finally bring the food. Next we asked for plates for the appetizer because I wasn’t going to put it on my head! When the lady brought out the plate and my sister ate a grape off it she noticed a finger nail on the plate! I kid u not! We didn’t get up right away because we didn’t want to cause a scene with my parents friends sitting right there but this was the most disrespectful experience I have ever had in a restaurant! I reported this to the female manager and she gave me a lame apology, she ripped up the receipt, and provided a lame apology. She said that she will take care of the bill again! Which is a complete lie because we have always paid even when they treated us badly. Completely wanted to cover her tracks! I couldn’t believe the way we were treated. Now I am traumatized and I don’t think I am going to go out to eat anymore in that area. This is very sad and disgusting. I will never eat here ever again. I hope no one has to experience what I experience tonight and go through this trauma....
