I usually don’t write reviews but I feel like I need to share this feedback w the restaurant and those thinking about dining here. Despite the positive reviews you might be seeing here and on OpenTable, TL;DR I felt duped, disappointed, and wish we kept our org resi at Scala Osteria. We decide to skip our resi because we had just spend the late afternoon there and didn’t want to drive back. Instead, we thought we’d just find a yummy spot in town. We were hoping for a simple, warm, filling, and delicious meal. We had heard good things and the impression they make on IG looked promising. While the waitstaff was very kind and warm (you can tell they are working hard) and the host greeted us with warm wishes for our anniversary, the food was very mediocre. There are a few reviews w this same feedback on OT. Our server did pour us a small glass of champagne (in our wine glasses) which was a nice gesture but neither of us wanted to drink and I can’t drink champagne. The “French baguette” used in the $25 hand-pulled mozzarella app I’m pretty sure was ciabatta (very lightly toasted so it was pretty clear it was not French bread) I hate to say this but it tasted like it came from the grocery story. The mozzarella for that price was ok and barely had any sea salt which is called out on the menu. The dish did not live up to the price. My pasta was bland and the portion was tiny (maybe 6 bites!) and my husbands gnocchi had maybe 7/8 pieces on a bed of beans and chopped asparagus which we thought was an interesting but not strong pairing. While they were accommodating w any modifications we had, and they did bring out more pasta after I asked (I have never had to do this before!) the food was just really disappointing. There were def a few flags and I should have listened to my gut but it was a later resi 8p and I felt bad walking out! If you’re use to eating Amazing food, I unfortunately would not recommend. I hope they figure things out otherwise there are too many other amazing choices between Sonoma and Napa. Left wishing we dined pretty much anywhere else but...

Loved the ambiance of this place, but unfortunately that is all it really has going for it. We were super disappointed with the food. The ceasar salad was disgusting, as it tasted like lettuce lathered with a mayo cream sauce with a sardine thrown on top. If you go, save your money and don't order it. Also the Rigatoni dish was super salty, the pasta was chewy and the meat chewy as well. Flavor was lacking aside from too much salt. Asked for extra cheese to try to make it taste better and it was still not satisfying. Sad to say. I am Italian and my husband and I eat at alot of Italian restaurants. The only food that tasted good was the arancini appetizer and crem Brule dessert. I Tried to stomach eating all of it without complaining because I we were celebrang our 26th wedding anniversary and I had only eaten 1 meal all day so super hungry. I will say that the server was amazing, but unfortunately the food was simply awful. What sets 1 restaurants apart from another has everything to do with the food. When the food is amazing we alway keep coming back and we bring our family and friends. This place is pricey so the food should be excellent. Unfortunately, this place was a 1 and done because the food was awful. If you want excellent Italian food I highly recommend you go to Montacatini in Walnut Creek, La Strada in American canyon, Venticellos in Benicia and or Marin Joe's in Corte Madera. These places will have you wanting to go back over and over again because the flavor of the food was out of this world and the service was amazing. It's worth the drive to try one of these other places. Sorry The Depot. This place I just can not promote to others 😞 food taste is everything when you pay a pretty penny to eat out and have the experience of...

We dined here for Father’s Day. We were thankful they sat us with very little notice. Last-minute reservation meant missing out on the outdoor seating with the perfect ambiance, by the pool, and outdoor entertainment. We were the only ones dining indoors, which was why they forgot about us. Hostess was super friendly and gracious, but overall service was a disappointment. It took forever for our server to even acknowledge our table and to take our order. I realize they were busy since it was Father’s Day, but I say we were there for a good 20 minutes before our server got to to us. Good thing we ordered appetizers because we waited for a very long time for our entrees to be served also. Food was pretty good overall, except for the squid ink pasta that clearly lacked salt. Medium rare Steak was closer to medium than rare, but the chicken was tasty, and the salmon was perfectly cooked. The bread “appetizer” for $7 was a joke because it was the tiniest loaf we have ever seen in our lives. Oysters tasted fresh. Our server didn’t come back to check on us for sometime. When we were finally able to wave him down, we asked for a refill, but he never came back. A few minutes later, When we asked for the check, we reminded him of the refill, which he completely forgot to begin with. The automatic gratuity for a party of 7 was understandable. But for 22%, we expected a lot more, especially having spent $450 for dinner. Overall, very disappointed with the service but will probably give it another go...

4.5 gets rounded up to 5. For a fairly casual, not too expensive place, everything was spot on, detail oriented, and well executed. Service was friendly, accommodating, and the kitchen was super quick. The black spaghetti seafood tonnarelli was very flavorful with a hint of spice (excellent sopped up with their house Sourdough (albeit mild) bread - ask them to heat it up and they will), and the veal scaloppine was delectable. For dessert, tried the limoncello mango cake, died, and went to heaven! Wine list is very reasonable. And the outdoor ambience was the perfect mix of quaint, cozy, charming, and elegant - multi sectioned seating areas, some with heating, fountain, and bistro lights abound. All in an 1870 former train depot. Well done, and I would definitely return again.

This place is amazing. The service was great and they were working hard to provide a wonderful experience. The food was spectacular. We started with the margarita pizza as our appetizer. It was perfect. We could not believe how thin and crispy the crust was. The sauce and cheese so delicious. We ordered the tagliatelle and the rigatoni as our mains. They were both rich and filling. I really want to try the hand pulled mozzarella next trip. They don’t have a full bar but offer wine spritz and a full wine menu. You can also bring your own for a corking fee. The location off the main square but we easily walked from our hotel. Highly recommend.

Great place located just a little ways away from the Sonoma square! The ambiance is very quaint with some modern aspects, such as a pool showcased as a fountain in the middle of their al fresco dining area. We especially enjoyed our lemon herb chicken and double cut porkchop! We also ordered their Margherita pizza as an appetizer. Its thin crust makes it a light starter to get our appetite going. I highly recommend trying out this place when you drop by downtown Sonoma!
