First experience was almost great. The cashier wasnāt knowledgeable on the menu items, so when I asked her what Hawaiian Mac n cheese was, she said she had no idea. I suppose I could have googled it, but I envisioned it was something like Mac n cheese with bbq sauce, bacon, etc (like a Hawaiian pizza). It was not. It was essentially pasta salad, which I loathe! 𤣠Having the employees try the menu items is a huge benefit to the service of your guests.
Second trip I had the chicken teriyaki bowl, which was amazing. Great experience.
Third trip, my brother was given chicken tenders and French fries instead of the burger he ordered. Almost immediately, the server brought him the correct food and told him to keep the tenders (very well handled.)
Then my order was brought out. It included my daughters meal (only instead of a kids chicken tender and fry, it was a full-size) and my boyfriends but not mine. Apparently the cashier never rang mine up and I didnāt catch it because the cost of the incorrectly wrung up tenders brought the total up to what led me to believe everything was on there. Not only was my food not expedited, I was almost met with attitude like her failure to ring me up properly was my fault. It definitely put a sour taste in my mouth. I spent years in the service industry though and understand that errors happen. I just wish that the accountability were properly placed and there was an attempt to make it right. I also think that the prices are a bit steep for what you get. For comparison sake, I took my 3 children to Clementines, had an appetizer, cup of soup, alcoholic beverage, 2 sodas, a lemonade, and 3 entrees for $85. Tribe kitchens cost $55 for 1 order of pierogies, chicken tender meal, a Philly cheesesteak sub, 2 bottles of water (apparently cups arenāt an option?) and one soda. We shared the tropical salad which was incredible and the pot stickers which were as good as any Asian restaurant. We also has the veggie fried rice which was very good, just not crispy enough and was oily but still not enough to warrant a negative review. We were pleased with the amount of food for the price, we were equally as pleased with the ease of ordering and the expediency with which they prepared and served our food. The best part was we didnāt have to be placed on a wait list and asked to wait for an unreasonable amount of time. Itās understandable why the South Haven Restaurant Mafia put up such resistance and fought so hard to influence city hall to give this establishment such a rough time. As a lifetime resident of South Haven, I think it is shameful that some downtown restaurant owners consider it part of the āambianceā of visiting SH to have to wait in line outside for up to 2 hours for a table. While it may be part of the ambiance for visitors, for those of us that are here year-round it is not part of the ambiance and thatās why some of you donāt see we the locals in the off-season either. To be fair he gave us an extra piece of chicken for it. When we said we didnāt get sauces they made us buy them separately which was crazy that sauce didnāt come with the meal but the crazier part was each sauce cup is over $1.
Edit: I noticed that the owner has been leaving rude remarks for some who dare give him a negative review. Even if I agreed with one of his comments, and I recognize that sometimes people just want to complain, there are much more professional ways of saying what he is saying. Also youāre pretty close to 5 stars dudeā¦donāt need to get so defensive over these. Dropping another star review because of this.
To respond to the owners comment below: No, you donāt ārememberā me because the order was placed online and we never even spoke, a family member picked up the food so thatās a lie. Online said 15-20min and it took you guys over 30 min and you werenāt even that busy and still got our order wrong.
