My husband and I ate here a week ago for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We were definitely less than impressed. Our bnb owner recommended this place to us and we were eager to try it out.. A few good things I will add are 1) the restaurant is beautiful and clean. 2) our hostess was very friendly. Unfortunately, those were the only two items that were pleasant. For starters, we went in on Sunday evening and were told it was a reservation only night. We looked around and saw maybe 3 tables being occupied. We thought okay, we will put in a reservation for tomorrow evening. So we did. Earlier the next day, we called to check to see if our reservation was still on and the lady on the phone told us no and that they didn't have us down but she would put us in for one at that time. At this point, we were annoyed but decided to give it a fair shot. Once we finally got there and got a table, our server was awful and very rude. She only came back to our table once after the food was sat on the table. We both ordered the filet mignon steak and it was of awful quality and we are not really picky people to be honest. With having to wave down our server to come to our table just to get the check, we decided we would just leave after paying quite a hefty check for literally nothing. No one greeted us as we left or asked how our meal was when obviously, by looking at our plates which contained most of the food still on them, we did not enjoy it. We saw no managers or anyone working besides the one server and one young hostess. I am not sure if this was just a bad time to visit because it was a holiday weekend or what but this was our first time in South Haven and we just were not impressed and we will not return. There were several other restuarants with friendly staff and good food in this beautiful little town. I hope that others have better experiences, and by reading reviews, it looks as if...
Read moreMy husband loves steak and I was very excited to surprise him by taking him out to eat at a local steakhouse. I looked up Sophie’s Steakhouse on the internet and looked at the menu. Expensive but, it seemed perfect with all the choices of steaks. We went early on Saturday (4:30) hoping to avoid any rush. There were only 3 tables of diners so we had planned well. Our server seemed distracted and completely bothered by us. She brought us water and disappeared for awhile. When she came back, she asked what we wanted to drink. It took some time to get our drinks. As we were trying to order she left and said she would return. Later, we finally ordered. It took a while to get our appetizer. It was over cooked and hard. Then later, she asked if we wanted bread. We still did not even have our salad. The couple seated next to us tried to order Prime Rib and were told they were out. Then another table tried to order Delmonico, and were told they were out. This is early on a Saturday. Patrons were coming in AFTER us and were being served their dinners and we just sat. No check up on us by our server. We ran out of our drinks and finally another server came and refilled us. Lost a straw and never came to give a new one. We finally gave up and asked to get our check for the 2 cokes and appetizer. As the manager was checking us out, she asked if everything was alright. I told her no and explained why. I got a quick sorry and she continued to charge us. This place was basically empty, an hour and a half wait for dinner that never came, main steaks NOT in stock, a bother to wait staff, and expensive. Wish I could give a review of the food but......I will never return and will be truthful to anyone I know about our experience at Sophie’s. I only wish I could give less than one star but it...
Read moreVery disappointed. I really hoped that some of the reviews were just exaggerated but nope. We had the Delmonico Steak $49 & the 2 lobster tails $36. Lobster was cooked perfectly.
The menu had only 4 steak choices. Filet Mignon, Kansas City Strip, NY Strip and Delmonico. Kansas City strip and NY strip are the same steak, only exception Kansas city is bone-in and the NY strip is boneless. Both are cut from the t-bone. So why do they have both? Where is a sirloin , Porterhouse or plain ribeye? I love sirloin but they did not serve it.
No seasoning on the steak other than chargrilled flavor. A little enhancers would be great like a little butter and garlic.
No steak sauce served. Some people like to eat their steak with and/or without steak sauce. I would eat half without and then with steak sauce.
Only serve 2 salad dressings - blue cheese or ceasar. I could not believe it! Especially when most people prefer ranch, italian or balsmic.
I sent my first salad back due to so many slimy nasty pieces of lettuce. They brought me another one but there were several bad pieces of lettuce in it as well. The salad was only lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes cut in half and onions. No cheese or croutons. You can see picture below. This is the first presentation of your meal and I would think you would not want the salad or appetizer to have issues.
Overall pretty disappointed in this restaurant. Probably won't go back. The service was almost too good. Loved our waitress but she was at the table almost too often and grabbing dishes before we were ready for them to be picked up. But she was a...
