I had no idea the place had changed names. I went in a couple months ago and it was still listed as Lafayette middle eastern cuisine on google, Apple Maps, and yelp, it still had the same phone number, and the online menu and website was the same. (Since then google has been updated but nothing else.) I saw they had a yelp deal. I purchased the coupon for $15, and it was good for $30 worth of food. It said valid for dine-in or take-out. I ordered the family dinner for two or whatever it was called. It was like $43.
I showed up to pick it up, showed my coupon on Yelp, and the woman ringing me up seemed confused like she had never seen it. At that moment a man I presume to be the owner or manager walked in. She told him the situation. He was immediately aggressive. He said 'WHO? This lady here?!', stomping over to me. (I don't know why he had to clarify that it was me, I was the only one there). I showed him the coupon and he said he knew nothing about it. He was immediately angry and defensive. I said that was weird, because his business added it onto yelp. He said it was no longer Lafayette middle eastern. I showed him the menu I ordered off of which said Lafayette, pointed out that his sign outside said Lafayette, and that the number I had called was the number on the coupon which was Lafayette. He said 'so how much are you expecting to pay for this'. I said $13 plus tax and tip since I have a $30 coupon. I tried explaining I had already paid $15, so I wasn't going to pay $43, because that would mean I was paying $58 for a $43 meal. I also suggested we simply call yelp and get my money refunded (so I could just pay regularly). He cut me off, wouldn't listen, and said 'OK NOW IM GOING TO GET LOUD' and proceeded to scream at me. I looked at the woman and the other man in the kitchen, said I am absolutely not going to be treated like this. Forget it. And I walked out without the food. He CHASED ME OUTSIDE, recorded my license plate and honestly made me feel pretty threatened. What was he going to do? Call the police on me? Follow me? I don't know.
I was scared to post about it, but the more I think about it, the more I think other people should know. I wouldn't want them to treat anyone else like that.
If the business owner reads this, I am the one who contacted Yelp to get that coupon removed. It took literally 5 minutes. We could have done that together on the phone and I would have paid you $43, and been reimbursed my $15. You need to realize you are in the customer service industry. Your customers deserve respect. Man, woman, black, white, short, tall, old, and young. Even if they have an issue with their order.
I have been working in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, and I have never encountered anything like this man. I don't care what the name is. As long as that owner is involved, I will never go back and I will tell every single person I know to...
