It's a cold and rainy day today in SLC so it was only right to go get a hot bowl of pho. While my stay in SLC, my goal is to find the best bowl in town. We had pho at another local joint next to our Airbnb and they left me unimpressed. So, hopefully today's bowl will be that bowl I needed last week.
Walking in, this place we poppin. Hella people had the same idea for lunch so I knew it was I was at the right joint. It did take us a minute to get sat. Our sweet waitress had to clean our table while serving and checking guests out. We were finally sat and checked out the menu.
I ordered the 7a pho dac biet today. A small bowl that had a little of everything. My daughter got bun bo hue. We wanted to start off with some fresh rolls. So, we just hung out and absorbed the vibe while food was being prepared.
The cold rolls came out first. The pair of rolls were hearty. I like that they weren't skimpy. The sauce that came with them was good but different. It did taste like it had Maggi in it. My bowl of pho came out shortly. Man did it look good! It was pipping hot and nicely garnished. What I appreciated was the amount of noodles I got in my bowl. There was a little of everything in the bowl. Brisket, meatballs, tendon, tripe, steak of some sort. The soup was savory and rich. It was a great bowl of pho. Small was right amount and I still had a good amount left over. My daughter enjoyed every bite of her bun bo hue. She enjoyed the noodles as they were chewy and bouncy. The broth was spicy and savory. It came with extras that she wasn't used to like the pigs foot and blood clot. She wasn't that daring to try but was intrigued.
I'm looking forward to coming back and trying banh hoi which is steamed sticky rice noodles with charboiled pork. It was one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes that my parents made at their restaurant. The staff was nice and super friendly. Lunch was great! I can't wait to come back for...
Read moreI have tried several Pho dining experiences throughout the city, and we finally settled into this little corner eatery for a nice winter lunch of Pho and spring rolls (without the pork, as I am not a fan of the meat). The peanut sauce for the spring rolls arrived first along with the greens and bean sprouts for the hot soup which was to come. The spring rolls came out first packed with crisp fresh ingredients, rolled to perfection and paired with the lightly sweet, nicely textured peanut sauce(because of the fresh crushed peanuts). Before we could finish the rolls, the noodle soup arrived hot and picturesque, the meat oils were still spreading out over the top of the soup like clouds moving across a clear blue sky unable to hide its contents. The broth was well seasoned, the brisket tender and the vegetables were flavorful as you would expect. A great dining experience from an unexpected Pho restaurant hiding amongst the bustle of a nearby busy market. Give it a try, you won't be...
Read moreReally tasty pho! Had been here before a few years ago and wasn't wowed then, but glad I gave it another go! Broth was delicious, light, and flavorful. Not too sweet or oily as I've had at other restaurants. Wanted to try their banh mi, but were told by one waitress they weren't selling them anymore but told by another waiter that they were out of the bread. Also had the Thai iced tea; not bad but I have definitely had better elsewhere. Spent about $35 for two small pho tai bowls, a coke, and a Thai tea. Which is not too bad! They have a bathroom but it is located toward the back and it's in a creepy looking hallway with yellow walls and it is shared with the restaurant next door. Very interesting experience to say the least lol. There is a lot of parking spaces but good luck trying to find one! This restaurant is located in a shopping strip section next to the Chinatown Supermarket which is always busy! All in all, we will absolutely be back and I hope to try...
