Absolutely awful experience — do not recommend
I recently visited Pico de Gallo in Tucson, and I can confidently say I will never be returning.
The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived around 9:30 AM. We were told many items on the menu weren’t available because they hadn’t been made yet—which we were understanding about and adjusted our order accordingly. But that’s where any hint of a positive experience ended.
The cashier, Patricia, was rude from the start. When we asked to use the restrooms, we had to grab a key (again, not a huge deal), but the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. They hadn’t been cleaned at all—trash and paper everywhere, dirty toilets and sinks—and we were clearly the first customers of the day. If the bathrooms looked that bad, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like.
After ordering, we waited over 30 minutes for our food with no updates. Finally, we asked what was going on, and Patricia informed us the food had been ready, just sitting there. Keep in mind: we were the only customers in the restaurant. She had nothing else to do and still didn’t bother to let us know our food was up. When we expressed frustration (understandably), she was dismissive and rude, saying “that’s just how things are done here.”
When we finally got the food, it was cold and borderline inedible. I ordered the birria soup, which I’d had in the past and enjoyed—but this time it was mostly fat, with brown, wilted cabbage on the side. It tasted like it had been made days ago. Truly awful.
We asked for salsa, and Patricia didn’t even look at us—just pointed vaguely at a fridge and said “over there.” Later, when I requested to-go containers, she handed me dirty Styrofoam cups. I had to ask for new ones because the ones she gave me had remnants of drink on them. Absolutely unacceptable.
Between the filthy bathrooms, cold and greasy food, and the astonishingly rude service, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t recommend Pico de Gallo to anyone—it’s unsanitary, unprofessional, and the food simply isn’t good.
Save your money and go literally...
Read moreI've gone here before and I favorite this place a lot. But today I decided to go and get a bowl of Cabeza with some flour tortillas, and that was it. I was customer 59. And by the time they gave the orders out to all of the people that came after me, my wife finally went and asked them what was going on as we had a more simpler order than the ones behind us. We got our order finally after order 65.
When we got the order, this is what we saw. There is a good 2-3 inches of oil on top and I'm honestly scared to eat it. I live in Green Valley, so a good 35-45 minutes away and when I first checked it before leaving my condiments were not wrapped good and looking a little off. Then the cabeza was pretty oily. By the time we got home, this food is so unappetizing that I just wasted $15.80 on a meal I will not eat that looks disgusting. The lemons are old, very little cabbage that's going bad, cilantro is wildering and the onions are squishy and might as well be a pile of mush.
I am very disappointed in my experience here as all of the Mexican customers that came in after me got loads of food and condiments and served before me even though they came in after me. Their food looked SO MUCH better than what they served to me, being an Indian man and my white wife. I feel very discriminated against and screwed over on this and if I wasn't 40 minutes away or a regular customer, I would be back there in a heartbeat complaining. What the hell is going on with this restaurant!?
It even took 5 minutes standing in front of the register before anyone even helped me. Then hearing all of the numbers after me with BIGGER ORDERS being served before me irritates me but to come home with 2-3 inches of oil on the bowl makes me feel like it's gotta go in the trash. The condiments gotta go in the trash. I don't think I will be returning EVER AGAIN. Crappiest experience that I've ever had...
