Finally! Ferah Tex-Med is finally open in Southlake! We have driven past the building for months, waiting for that “Coming Soon” sign to disappear! I received an email today (get on their mailing list) saying that the first day of their soft opening was today, so we immediately made a reservation for dinner. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait!! Dress was casual, but not tank top and flip flops casual.

We were enthusiastically greeted as soon as we opened the door, so things were off to a good start. Our server, Dylan, greeted us and asked if we had any allergies they should be aware of. I have only been asked that at one other restaurant, and I love that they ask!

I highly recommend you start with the Chef’s Sampler Platter, especially if you haven’t been there before. Everything was fantastic, but two things really knocked my socks off! (1) The fried goat cheese was the first. I love goat cheese, but this was the best I have ever had. Make sure to eat it with the pomegranate salad on top, too! When I took my first bite, there was an explosion of the creamiest goat cheese you can imagine, coupled with the crunch of the cornflake coating and the pop of the pomegranate seeds. My fiancé doesn’t care for goat cheese and he even said this was in his top 2 on the plate! (2) the bacon wrapped stuffed dates. I know that sounds like a strange combination, but imagine this - a sweet, chewy date stuffed with that same amazing, creamy goat cheese, then wrapped with crisp bacon and served with a chipotle aioli. OMG! I haven’t had anything like it before!!

Can it get better than that? Apparently so! The co-owners dropped by to introduce themselves and shared some of the history about the food, the restaurant and their long friendship and business partnership with the chef. It was a truly fascinating story and experience, made even better when the chef stopped by later in the meal. Food is great, but becomes even better when there is a story behind it! They do have a chef’s bar coming soon, and we are looking forward to that experience!

I could go on and on, but I will make the rest of this brief. My fiancé had the gyro platter. The meat was extremely tender and he said the rice and roasted vegetables were done really well. I had the gnocchi with shrimp. I only ate half and brought the rest home because I had to save room for dessert! It seems that few places do this anymore, but Dylan took my dish and boxed it up for me in the back. That is just one more thing that makes Ferah stand out.

Finally, dessert. Baklava sounded amazing, but the Texas Shaped Chocolate Mousse Cake was calling my name. The mousse had an amazing and creamy texture. I just had to close my eyes and savor every taste and texture. The cake is something you just have to try for yourself, but if you enjoy chocolate, you really can’t go wrong here!

I have lunch plans with a couple of girlfriends tomorrow, and texted them before we had even finished our meal tonight to inform them of a change in locale! I made reservations at Ferah for tomorrow so I can go back! The big question is what to have. I’m thinking the fried goat cheese and the bacon wrapped dates might make a good meal - followed by the chocolate mousse cake, of course!

8/6/2022 update

I saw that Ferah was having a 'Battle of the Chefs' over this weekend and that sounded like fun, so we made reservations for last night. I don't want to give it away, but see the photos then go try them and vote on your favorite! I will tell you, though, that we had a split vote in this house!

We ordered those dishes along with the chef's sampler, which we already knew we loved. We followed dinner up with their baklava, which is amazing!

Our first visit was 4 weeks ago. My second visit was 3 weeks and 6 days ago. We were amazed that one of the owners recognized us and greeted us with "Welcome back!" On our way out, the server from my second visit said "Hello! Good to see you again!" What talent for recognizing faces and making us feel a...

Underseasoned, uninspired, overpriced. I don’t typically leave reviews but was so disappointed felt like it was necessary. We love Mediterranean food and were excited to try a new place with “texas flair”. The hummus was comparable to store-bought hummus at best. (I know Central Market’s is significantly better) The baked feta dip was good but barely had any feta. (Practically 90% tomato sauce 8% olives and 2% feta) The pita was poor quality and stale. (I would hope it’d be homemade at this price point, but did not seem to be the case. Most places will serve it wrapped to keep warm) Chicken pita did not have much flavor but had a slice of avocado which I guess qualifies as “Tex”. Gnocchi were a safe option for the wife but were bland and had very gritty spinach. Good ambiance and great service. I would give it three stars if the price point wasn’t so high for what we got.

It is possible that other dishes outside of the classic Mediterranean menu such as the lamb and short rib are better, but our experience didn’t encourage us to come back. While vacationing in Greece we’ve had all kinds of great dishes, most memorably a smoked feta ravioli, with great smokey or meaty flavor that reminded us of Texas and home. We were hoping to find a refined menu that blended the flavors of Texas and the Mediterranean on this menu but only found half-hearted attempts to take greek food and fry it, throw some jalapeño in it, drop a raw avocado on it, or wrap it in bacon. Not sure if I would classify...

Nestled in the heart of the bustling city, Ferah Tex-Med Kitchen offers a delightful fusion of Mediterranean and Texan flavors that promises a gastronomic adventure unlike any other. My recent dining experience at this charming eatery left me utterly impressed and longing to return.

From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted by the warm ambiance and inviting aromas wafting from the kitchen. As I perused the menu, I was delighted to find a diverse selection of dishes that showcased the best of both worlds. From succulent lamb kebabs to zesty familiar Tex-Mex dishes, there was something to satisfy every craving. The chef's innovative approach to blending traditional flavors with modern twists was evident in every dish.

Initially I was hesitant after receiving my dinner option. Though I wish my protein portion was larger, it all collectively hit the spot.

I indulged in the red fish with Brussels sprouts and a grit square, which featured a choice cut of protein layered above with a zesty sauce on top. Each bite burst with flavor, and the freshness of the ingredients shone through.

Overall, my dining experience at Ferah Tex-Med Kitchen was nothing short of exceptional. From the exquisite food to the impeccable service, every aspect exceeded my expectations. Whether you're a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, Texan classics, or simply enjoy exploring new culinary experiences, I highly recommend paying a visit to this culinary gem. You won't be...

Ordered Ferah Mule and Cold Smoked Paloma for drinks. Both were delicious. I don't even like Moscow Mules but I really liked my husband's Ferah Mule . The Smoked Paloma came out in a potion bottle and was poured in a puff of smoke which was fun. We ordered fried goat cheese and it was so good. Not necessarily worth the $12 though. It only came with 2 patties. For entree I ordered a salmon taco, falafel taco, and truffle fries. My husband ordered the gyro platter. I was served a gyro taco instead of the falafel taco, hence the 4 star on service, but ate it anyway because I don't like to complain. The salmon taco was very good and so big. I could have been full off one taco they are big. The gyro taco was even better. The truffle fries were disappointing. Definitely skip the fries. They are basic fries, thin and crispy, with some grated cheese. I could make them at home and didn't taste any truffle. Gyro platter was good and I thought the cast iron vegetables were amazing. The rice pilaf was as good as rice pilaf can be. 2 alcohol beverages, an appetizer, and 2 entrees was $87. Atmosphere was so cozy and had a good Playlist. Works for a date night or with friends and family.
