Spike’s Dairy Bar is a charming walk-up ice cream stand. The gentleman who took our order was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic—it was clear he genuinely loves Spike’s!

We tried the cherry almond chocolate chip swirl flavor, which was bursting with flavor and had a wonderfully creamy texture. We also ordered a hazelnut spread milkshake, which was decent but could use a bit of refinement. Still, the creaminess of their ice cream really stood out and made the visit worthwhile.

If you’re in the mood for a cool, sweet treat on a hot day, Spike’s Dairy Bar is a solid choice. We’ll definitely be back for more!

Spikes Dairy Bar is a staple stop for us anytime we’re in Southport—which is at least once or twice a month. It’s one of those spots that never misses.

The soft serve? Always on point. Creamy, consistent, and they always have a rotating flavor or two to keep your palate guessing. Whether you’re in the mood for classic vanilla or something a little more lively, they’ve got you covered.

And don’t sleep on the hot dogs either. Simple but solid—hits the spot when you want something savory before diving into dessert.

Definitely worth pulling over for, especially if you’re strolling through Southport.

Relax, reset, grab a...

This place is over-priced. I ordered a soft serve "tropical orange" and it came out looking (and tasting) like vanilla with just drizzling around the edges of an orange sauce - which doesn't even taste like orange. I was debating between the mint chip and the orange and asked to taste both, they told me I could only try the mint chip "because the orange is soft serve".. I loved the mint chip and should gone with what I knew. ... Don't advertise it as orange if what I'm going to get is a glorified McDonald's...

I love Southport for its chill vibe--and this place best exemplifies the sweet possibilities within reach! It features a couple of the very best local products (Bald Head Coffee and Chuck's Homemade Ice Cream) while serving things up in great style that'll make you smile for a long while! So if you want your night to go far, Be sure to stop by Spike's Dairy Bar!

We stopped by Spike’s Dairy Bar and absolutely loved the ice cream! I had a cup of the salted caramel and my wife got it in a cone—we both agreed it was some of the best we’ve had in a long time. Creamy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The service was nothing special, but the ice cream made it worth the visit. We’ll definitely be back!
