Update: I tried the chicken the next day and removed the BBQ sauce. The chicken was moist & flavorful. I'm begging y'all to have the sauce for everything on the side. Bumpin up a ā and givin NEW STORE GRACE! I wish no harm to the business, my family and I had to try Spartanburg's NEW Jim N Nicks Bar B Q. We try to sample as much of new places menu as our budget allows. We ordered for pick up and boy were y'all busy. Unfortunately, the 2 sides of french fries didn't make it to me and my son's plate. I ordered the sparerib plate & half chicken plate with mac & cheese, baked beans, potato salad & fries (didn't make it!). We ordered large onion rings & smoked wings with Carolina mustard for the fam to try out. I'm not gonna add my wife's order as it would be too much. Okay, the good news first...The onion rings are fresh & crispy and perfect if you want to add a lil salt or not. The wings are okay, but nothing special, the Carolina mustard has some spicyness. The bad starts at SALT! Individual taste buds vary and y'all are killing the meats by overly salting. The issue is the over saucing of your meats which I literally felt making my blood pressure rise. I had about 8 sparerib bones and I couldn't eat half of em. It's also like the meat is over sauced making a thick wet like crust that sticks to your fingers. If y'all think that's good for lickin your fingers, it's not. As a former smoker of meats I can tell you that those spareribs are slightly overcooked. Here's the tell... They're tender, but not the tender that it takes extra pull and I couldn't tell if they really had flavor because the ribs are SMOTHERED in sauce. A great rib doesn't need sauce, which should be on the side for customers to use or not if they want. It's telling when you're not given the choice. Once the sauce is oversalted, anything you put it on is compromised. The chicken was tender, but again it was doused in that dark sauce which had some spice & heat. The cheese muffins y'all call biscuits are NOT biscuits, they're mini cheese muffins and they're okay, as they were not hot once we got em home on a plate. The potato skins salad with tiny celery pieces is a STAR! Tastes close to southern homemade. The mac & cheese was okay, but a lil grainy and passable. The baked beans were flavorful with spice, but a lil too sweet. Most people would say I'm nitpicking, but with the higher prices and today's economy, you really wanna get your money's worth, unless you have an abundance of funds to donate to restaurant chains. I wonder if we try the Indian land, SC location near my mom turnout better? Does each location use the exact same methods and measurements? I can say that I've been to multiple Mission BBQ's in different states and locations, and they were always consistent. I'll give y'all another try after the hype dies down with your Catfish & Babyback ribs. As I mentioned before, I wish no harm to the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI run the Spinx across the street, Iāve been so excited for this place to open. The staff visit my store frequently and invited me to their soft launch so I brought my husband and my daughter yesterday. We ordered the onion rings to start with, then I got the Mr. Jimās combo plate with pulled pork, bbq chicken, brisket, Mac and cheese and baked beans. My husband ordered the loaded bbq baker and we ordered the tender dinner for our daughter.
First they brought out their cheese biscuits and oh my word I could have filled up on those alone. The onions rings were some of the best Iāve had! The breading was perfectly crispy and salty and they were very good dipped in our table bbq sauce. My husbandās potato was HUGE! The menu definitely does not lie. He practically inhaled it and said all the toppings were perfectly balanced. Once it was brought out he realized why it didnāt come with any sides, or trimmings as theyāre called here - you wouldnāt have room for them! All 3 of my meats were perfectly cooked and so tender and juicy, I had ordered the Carolina mustard sauce but did find it was just a tad too mustardy for my taste but the house made table sauce was wonderful with them instead. The Mac and cheese was some of the best Iāve had in a restaurant, very cheesy with huge shreds of cheese throughout and I find a lot of Mac and cheese needs salt - this one did not! The baked beans were delicious as well, a tad bit of spice to them that I enjoyed. My daughter didnāt eat much as she wasnāt feeling well but we sampled her tenders and fries before boxing up her food to take home. The tenders are crispy and juicy and well seasoned, and the fries were also very well seasoned.
We had banana pudding for dessert - it was a wonderfully thick pudding with a vanilla wafer crust.
The atmosphere was great, all of the staff were very friendly and the GM came over when we were nearly finished to ask how we had liked everything. Unfortunately I didnāt catch his name, Iām sure Iāll learn it soon though as i see the staff in my store fairly often! We told him we loved everything and he explained the process for the house made sauce - they start at 5am and make 44 gallons of it every day! I think next time weāll sit outside, they have a very nice patio area and you can access the bar from both inside and outside.
Overall there was not a thing we didnāt like about Jim āN Nickās and we are very much looking forward to their grand opening on the 16th! We cannot recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust never again. I had high hopes for this place and did not check out any reviews before going so it was my own fault. I have seen this place packed since they opened so I thought it meant they have good food. I can say they honestly do not. I was so excited thinking I was going to eat award winning BBQ. Well I do not know where they keep that BBQ but it definitely was not given to us. First this is the first BBQ place I have been to where the sides were so small I thought I accidentally ordered just a spoonful. The baked beans well they kinda taste like they are out of a Bush bean can, just not as good. Maybe put a little meat in there and give people enough so they can actually taste them. How can you mess up fries, ask these people cause they were limp and just so,so. The chili had a little bite at the end, but not enough to even make me want more. Maybe put some beans and other stuff in there just not the soupy stuff. It literally was two small spoonfuls. That was probably two spoonfuls too much. The cole slaw was decent.
Now to what you want to hear about the MEAT: I got the BBQ chicken sandwich and I have to say it was very juicy meat. Unfortunately, the amount of smoke was so much I could not taste any BBQ sauce or chicken, just the smoke. The Brisket sandwich man that was sad. It was dry, no sauce even though I requested sauce and so finely chopped I thought maybe they do not know we can chew. Tough, dry, and yuck. I did not know it was possible for any BBQ restaurant to mess up a brisket but this place certainly showed me they can. We got ribs to share again smoke only and tough. Could not taste any sauce. Can not tell you about the cheddar biscuits because they never made it to us. We left here over $70.00 poorer and much wiser. We will not be back here ever. This is your basic BBQ food and they can not cook it. To get the taste of smoke out of my mouth I grabbed something from McDonald's. At least they can make a...
