My wife remembers her parents taking her to Black Angus many years ago. Her memory was it being a great steakhouse!
She wanted to treat me to a good steak dinner. Unfortunately, it was far from being good.
Although we were seated without a wait, it took a while for the wait staff to welcome us and take our drink order. It took a while after that to receive our first drink order. My wife’s Chardonnay was warm as was my draft beer.
Let’s get to the food…..
The bread was stale, dry and had no flavor. Our Spinach and Artichoke dip was pretty good. My wife order the prime rib MR. I ordered the Mushroom and Blue Cheese MR also.
Her primes rib looked ok, but was tough and tasteless. Thank goodness for the horseradish.
I cut into my filet and it nearly medium well. Maybe medium at best. I didn’t even try to take a bite. It took a while to catch the wait staff and bring it to their attention. They agreed the steak was over cooked and would bring me another filet.
My wife finished her meal and I still had no dinner. I was able to get the attention of the wait staff to cancel the order. We were ready to leave and asked that we not be charge for my dinner. The wait staff told me the steak was ready to serve. Curious response. If it was ready, why don’t I have it?
Anyway, I insisted to cancel my dinner and bring us the check. A few minutes later, a manger gave us our check and also gave us my meal to go! I was quite appreciative of their effort to make things right.
The check reflected our dinner without my meal. But, we tipped the wait staff for both Meals.
Not sure how a medium rare filet would be served as medium well? Either the cook over cooked the steak or the steak sat under the heat lamps too long before being served. I used to cook in a restaurant like Black Angus and I understand how things like this happens. My wife was also a waitress in her younger years.
Overall, the food was not good! The wait staff was polite but very slow.
Even though management gave us my meal to go complimentary, it was still over cooked. Honestly, to-go orders with steak tends to do that.
Sadly, we won’t be returning!
We’ll keep our go to steak house in Airway Heights! (Purposely didn’t name the restaurant, not difficult to...
Read moreRecently had dinner with two friends (three of us total). The restaurant was nearly empty at 5:30 pm. That’s never a good sign.
My 2 friends split a medium-sized sirloin. One had a loaded baked potato, the other had a side salad and brussel sprouts. The server said the steak came with 2 sides, but on the receipt we were charged for all 3 sides? So I’m not sure what happened there. Maybe a miscommunication or misunderstanding.
I ordered a burger and fries. We each had a soft drink. Total cost was over $100.
First of all, I should mention the server was wonderful. She was very polite and very attentive. Did a great job. The host and hostesses were all very nice too. Great customer service, no complaints there! I want to be clear about that.
The issue was simply the prices. Very expensive, but the food just wasn’t that good. Definitely not a $100+ meal. It wasn’t terrible food. But it wasn’t good. It was mediocre. My friends’ sirloin was pretty lame for $40. The side salad was OK. Baked potato and brussel sprouts looked OK, I didn’t try so I’m not sure. My $17 burger was very average. And fries were not too good.
It just wasn’t a $100+ dinner. More like a $50-$60 dinner.
I know inflation and COVID have hit restaurants hard. And minimum wage has increased. And all that. I totally get that. And I’m grateful that restaurants are even open! I’ve missed eating out.
But I, like most people, have a budget for eating out. And I’m not going to waste my hard-earned eating-out money on a mediocre, overpriced meal. If it’s gonna cost me a hundred bucks to eat out, then it should be a good meal. I could’ve gone to Clinkerdagger for the same price and had a much better quality meal and atmosphere.
I know Black Angus is a chain restaurant and not a “top of the line” steakhouse. I get that. But their prices are pretty steep for what you get. That’s my only complaint. I probably won’t go back but I wish...
Read moreI love good food. I have two kids and they are generally pretty well behaved. My husband and I decided to go as we were in the Christmas spirit of getting our tree and such. We decided eating out would be a boatload of fun as he doesn't get to be home as much due to work. It was our first time and we didn't know what to expect. The staff was pleasant, and we were seated right away. Unfortunately we took a look at the prices and were a bit shocked. I've worked in kitchens most of my life with everything from homemade pizza to high end places. A kids meal for our daughter was on the high end but we thought we are already here might as well. It supposedly came with a drink, an entree, a side, a sundae and something else, apples I think. So we ordered an appetizer and a kids meal while we decided on what else to eat. Right about that time, both kids decided they were done with the place. My husband promptly took our littlest one out to the car while I waited with the elder to get our food to-go and paid so as not to disturb anyone else around . It took a long while and our waitress was a sweetheart, but the looks from the others were less than great. We finally got out to the car and get the kids in. Figuring I might as well feed our daughter something, I opened the kids meal to discover three tiny, way overcooked and unflavorful chicken tenders, and a tiny handful of fries. Mind you Wendy's has done better...for half the price. And they charged us for her apple juice, and didn't even offer to give her dessert. Shrugging it off, we bit into our appetizer. And promptly didn't touch anymore of it. Even if I may not overly like something I will generally still eat it. Yeah, not touching that. So thanks to Buffalo Wild Wings down the street, our night was saved, the kids had a blast, and we had a stress free dinner. Oh and saved a ton of money while enjoying the same kind of appetizer we had ordered at...
