One of the most interesting dining experiences of my life and the best representation of all that is Spokane: the good, the bad, and the Whammy! An old school burger joint with outdoor seating that attracts a diverse crowd of seemingly all income levels, from the rich to the poor, people of all races and ages, this place is a real gem for people watching. When we walked up, a guy loudly burped until we (and a couple other) people moved out the way so he could skip the line. He smiled the whole time but the burps also seemed genuine. A very tattooed man in clean clothes, fresh red and black MJ’s, and a matching Chicago Bull’s Fannie pack jaywalked across the street without looking after doing a little nervous meth jig, only to have an older model suburban with a headlight out accelerate and slightly swerve in his direction as if to intentionally hit him; at no point did he acknowledge the near homicide and never changed his stride. He returned a few minutes later and got a burger. We also saw some cowboys types, grunge core people (both those adopting the look intentionally and those not), along with some yuppies and just an overall diverse crowd as motley as the menu. While all this was going on a customer was having his car towed in the lot. All in all a place for everyone, and a must stop for anyone passing on I-90. The guy working the register asked where I was from when I told him we were traveling, and then asked my impression of Spokane. “Interesting,” I said. With a smile he...

This was my first time here, and I have to say—it was absolutely amazing! I ordered the rib combo with mac and cheese, and my mom got the brisket combo with fried okra. Finding good fried okra is rare, but theirs was cooked to perfection. The mac and cheese? Way better than what you’d get at KFC or Panera. Portions were just right, and the sweet BBQ sauce was hands down the best I've had—and I'm not usually a big fan of BBQ sauce.

Maybe we were just really hungry, but the food truly hit the spot. To top it all off, the customer service from the two gentlemen working was top-notch. They were both professional and funny, making the whole experience even better. Having Friends playing on the TV added a nice, cozy touch to the atmosphere.

If you're on the fence about coming here, take my advice—do it! I HIGHLY recommend this place and will definitely be coming back. I’ll also be spreading the word to my coworkers. And no, this isn’t a paid review, unless you count amazing food and service as payment! For context, we spent less here than we usually do at Burger King, Panera, Panda Express, or KFC, and we left feeling satisfied, not sluggish.

This spot is a gem! 😀

To add to this, their brisket is a thousand times...

I feel like my memories of this place are better than the actuality of it these days.

The staff is incredibly unorganized and everyone was flustered…I understand it maybe was just an off day but the inside was pure chaos and orders were coming out in random order. I’m sure this has to do with being under staffed but I think a streamlined method of taking and placing orders and presenting them would be much more efficient and cause the employees a lot less headache and chaos.

The food also wasn’t as good as I have in my memories. The burger was really dry and nothing to write home about. The fry’s were somehow soggy and burnt I dunno. Also needed to be drowned in salt. The onion rings were spot on though.

Love the atmosphere. There is just something so nice about a joint you order from a window and can enjoy on picnic tables out in the fresh air. Lots of people mingling and chatting. Best part of this place for sure!

Also, don’t blame the place for this one but but our friends almost got ran over by some lady who almost drove right into their table…not exactly sure what was happening but she hit every trash can then just took off....

The pros: Unique ordering method. The cashier's don't write anything or type anything they just remember and tell your order to someone else. Different. Interesting. The cons: The signature Whammy burger is a shockingly close replica of the McD0n@ld's Double Cheeseburger. Same size. Same bun. Same patty. Same single pickle slice with three onion bites. Like there is no way it's not intentional. The fish n chips were fish sticks with mildly soggy fries. Not great. Had a root beer shake. Just vanilla froyo with syrup mixed in. Meh. The old 50s style sign and decor were very promising of nostalgia and such but the many many addicts in the area take away from the experience greatly. Won't return.

This place is an iconic old fashioned burger joint with walk up counter service and picnic tables. I recommend ordering more food than you usually would eat as the burgers are a bit on the small side. The fries were a huge hit with my family and maybe even more popular than the burgers. They are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about ingredients when asked about dairy allergy items. Also interesting…. Their fried chicken is dairy free! We have a hard time finding places to enjoy fried chicken. This is a place I had been to as a kid and a place I brought my own kids back to and a place I would return to again in the future!
