We visited this restaurant on June 22nd at 1:35 PM. At the time, there were only 4 or 5 tables occupied. Since we were quite hungry, we ordered both drinks and food right away. I asked the server if she could bring out the appetizers quickly, especially the hummus plate, and she assured us that it would be out in no time.

However, we ended up waiting until 2:20 PM without receiving any food. During this time, we noticed the owner/bartender/server engaged in a lengthy conversation with a guest for nearly 20 minutes. When we finally brought up the delay, we were told they would check with the kitchen and get back to us.

Shortly after, they informed us that there was only one cook handling two restaurants and our order might take another 15–20 minutes. Honestly, it was hard to understand how it could take over an hour to prepare tacos and a simple hummus platter, especially when the restaurant wasn’t busy.

We decided to leave and asked the same server why she hadn’t mentioned the kitchen delay earlier—especially since we had specifically asked for the appetizer to be served quickly. Her response was, “I didn’t know until now.”

This raises a serious concern: is there a lack of communication between your staff and kitchen, or were we simply misled? How can it take an hour to prepare such basic dishes when the restaurant was far from full?

Customer satisfaction seems to be an afterthought here. I hope the management reflects on this experience and takes steps to improve transparency, communication, and...

So I work downtown and I have been in a ton of times and honestly loved this place but we went in the weekend of 10/28 and now I'd be hard pressed to go back.

It was Sunday afternoon and there was only two other customers in the whole bar. There were three people working, one looked like he was about to check out for the night and the manager was with him and the other server. My husband and I came in and sat down. About 6 minutes later a large group came in and sat down as well. They were immediately greeted and a couple minutes later were all given waters and ordered their drinks. We hadn't even been greeted. So we sat there watching the server begin to make all of their drinks. Again, this entire time, the two of us have just been sitting there, directly in front of the manager. The sever had been to the large table that came in after us three times and hadn't even said hello to us.

After about 20 minutes of just sitting there we got up and left. The manager even told us thanks for coming in. Just really bad service and then to see us leave like that and just say thanks felt even ruder?

Usually we get great service but it felt very much like they just didn't want to serve us or deal with us which sucks because this has always been my pick for office outings and when people come into town. It just felt really terrible and the way we were treated is still leaving a bad taste...

Although the food was a bit pricey, it was excellent. I had their Lamb Gyros, which were souvlaki style gyros, presented on what was called a stone fire naan bread, but was more like a pita than naan (I love Indian food, and have traveled to India). The gyros (2) were a smaller size gyro, which I loved. I was expecting one large gyro, and seeing two smaller gyros was a welcome change. My wife had the BBQ Fries (brisket), which were bursting with flavor. Beef brisket isn't a simple BBQ dish, and theirs was packed with flavor, which didn't overpower the beef, itself. I was surprised to find such excellent BBQ in a restaurant that bills itself more as a foodie style bistro with an amazing whisky selection.

Speaking of whisky, their selection was amazing. I have been to some very well known whisky places over the years, and I was very impressed, as I saw bottles I have never heard of, much less tasted. I ordered the Lagavulin Distillers Edition, and it was served like whisky should be served. The bartender obviously knows whisky, and served my wife a custom whisky sampler of bourbon, which I greatly appreciated. Service was a bit slow at first, but completely understandable, when taking the amount of volume into account.

All in all, this was a wonderful experience, from the food, to the personalized service, to the whisky, and we...

If you're in Spokane and love a laid-back spot with great food and drinks, The Purgatory is a must-visit. I dropped in recently and was genuinely impressed—not just by the atmosphere, but by the flavors. I started with the hummus, which was creamy, rich, and served with warm, perfectly toasted pita. The portion was generous, and the texture had that just-right balance of smoothness with a touch of earthiness. It’s the kind of starter that works just as well with a cocktail as it does with a casual beer. Then came the steak bites—tender, flavorful, and seared with a beautiful crust. They were juicy inside and came with a dipping sauce that really pulled everything together. It’s rare to get steak this good at a bar-focused spot, but Purgatory nailed it. Speaking of drinks, their selection is massive. I paired my meal with one of their whiskey-forward cocktails, but their list is deep—over a thousand bottles of whiskey, plus a rotating lineup of craft beers and some very creative cocktails. The vibe is warm, rustic, and just edgy enough to be memorable without trying too hard. Overall, The Purgatory delivered on every level. Great food, solid drinks, and an atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Highly recommend.

Purgatory Craft Beer and Whiskey is one of Spokane’s gems! The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between cozy and lively, whether you’re here to unwind with friends, watch a game, or sip something special. The food is delicious! I hade the Purgatory Smoked Prime Rib French Dip and my wife had the Fried Chicken Tacos (see pic). Both are excellent! Their craft beer selection is fantastic, with rotating taps that always offer something new and interesting, from crisp local IPAs to rich stouts. The whiskey list and whiskey wall is the most impressive I’ve ever seen! The staff really know their stuff too; they’re always ready with spot-on recommendations, and you can tell they love what they do. The service is top-notch: friendly, fast, and welcoming. It’s rare to find a place that delivers consistently great drinks, an awesome vibe, and excellent hospitality all at once, but Purgatory nails it. If you’re in Spokane and love craft beer, whiskey, or just a great hangout spot, this is an absolute must-visit!

With all the whiskeys on the wall, I’d understand why it’s called purgatory. & No I didn’t go to heaven after I walked out, I was still on this hellish earth. My friend got the pretzel with cheese, the cheese taste like it came out of a can and just reheated and plated nicely. The barstools were tall for my tiny self, I like the table, I like the ladder addition on the shelves to make it seem like the bottles were books. Now I’d have to say, if you are in search of a specific whiskey, it’s probably here. The server didn’t come until like 10 minutes after we arrived by the way, which was annoying, got my husband beer order wrong too. After a certain hour, the bar was filled with the same looking white girl with blonde hair in search for their next sugar daddy. Now if you’re a sugar daddy or a desperate college boy, this would be your spot.
