For my birthday, my husband told me to pick a place of my choosing. He suggested quite a few restaurants $$$$+ but after about an hour of google-mapping almost a hundred places, I decided on Beffa's because of three images I saw (chicken and waffles, a fire looking chicken sandwich and the most delicious looking biscuits and gravy I've ever seen). We drove over an hour from Warrenton; parking was easy as it was behind the building and easy access, first floor. The server was kind, and when I asked about the three images he said those were brunch specials and the chicken sandwich was a special from a while ago. I guess I should have called, so it was my bad, not theirs. I wasn't really impressed by the menu as I glanced over it -- it seemed different from the images I viewed on maps, so I asked for the servers recommendation. Eventually, my husband and I both decided to split his highly recommended pork sandwich. It took a while for our plate to come out and when it did arrive, it didn't look as described. The pork was very bland and parts of it was inedible because it was rubbery. The broccoli overwhelmed the sandwich to where we couldn't taste anything else. It was just very bland and disappointing. The coleslaw and fries, however, were very good -- and you could tell the ketchup and ranch were made from scratch. 😍🔥 The woman behind the counter was so very, very sweet, so their customer service is the only reason I gave the place more stars. I've never been here before to know if they're just having an off day or what, but I was very disappointed, especially for a birthday lunch/dinner. Maybe they're short staffed because of covid, so I may try them again in the...
Read moreBeffa's is a family restaurant that has been in STL for 127 years. I lived within the city limits of STL for 40 years and our paths never crossed. I've been a IL resident for 4 years and made a road trip to enjoy their Happy Hour with a BFF and it was totally worth the 40 minute drive.
What makes Beffa's Happy Hour extra special is not only available Tuesday thru Friday 4PM-7PM, but it is also celebrated on Saturday 6PM-8PM. You gotta love a bar that has a HH on the weekend. The pricing on beer, craft cocktails and food are all budget friendly.
The cocktails we enjoyed were masterfully made and we experienced two different bartenders. Our visit took place during the shift change from day to night staff. Both were attentive and super friendly.
The food menu for HH is limited, but a good variety. We sampled, Boneless Wings with Hot Honey, Spinach and Artichoke Dip and Reuben Bites. Our first bartender recommended the Reuben Bites, she said it was her favorite. After having them myself, I am in total agreement with her.
Big plus for drinking and dining here is, they have their own private parking lot behind the building. It is close enough to Energizer Park to make it a great place to stop before or after a ST Louis City SC game.
The atmosphere/ambiance is definitely vintage. There is a good historical feel and it...
Read moreI used to frequent Beffa's as it is located across from my place of work. Unfortunately I don't have any good things to say about it.
Beffa's suffers from many of the issues other StL family owned restaurants do.
An outdated menu that does not hold up against competitors. The menu was clearly created by someone in their home kitchen, and they then attempted to make it restaurant quality. Every time I've eaten at Beffa's, there is always something wrong with my food. Fries are never cooked all the way through. Smash burgers are always missing toppings. You can tell the chicken is directly ordered from Sysco, and no prep goes into making it more palatable. It's a pretty telling sign when the bartenders say the food is "meh" at best."
The service is also lacking. They are continually understaffed, and Paul, the owner, will sit on his laptop while the bartenders drown, trying to serve the floor tables and bar.
The atmosphere is alright for a sports bar but that's about it.
Reading the other reviews raving about the service and food, I am bewildered. I can't help but feel that these individuals either know the owner or their family and are giving good reviews out of friendship.
It feels like another family owned restaurant where the family tries to keep it afloat while not having the skills to do so.
