Yesterday, we went to Frank Pepe’s in Stamford for lunch. It was our first time dining at Frank Pepe’s and I have to say that this particular location was extra special. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled after our experience yesterday. We went to lunch to celebrate my father’s 93rd birthday. The service was exceptional from the moment we got out of the car. Both of my parents are 93 years old and they both use walkers. As we approached the restaurant from the parking lot, two employees held the doors open so that my mom and dad could easily walk through their own entrance. As we all entered the restaurant, we were welcomed by everyone with a warm "hello" and a huge smile. The hostess walked us toward the dining area and told us to pick wherever we wanted to sit. My husband and my parents chose a big booth by the window and went to sit down. However, before I sat down with them, I asked the hostess if it was possible for someone to take our picture during lunch since it was my father’s 93rd birthday. With a big smile, she assured me that they were more than happy to do that. I then sat down and the waitress came over to give us our menus and take our drink order. She also could not have been nicer or friendlier. After bringing us our drinks, she then took our pizza order. We had heard how good the pizza is at Frank Pepe’s and now we could decide for ourselves. We were not disappointed, and in fact, found the pizza to be absolutely delicious! We loved the thin crust and the flavor was outstanding. While we were eating, the waitress came by to check on us and at the same time, she took our picture. After we finished eating, the hostess, our waitress, and a few other waitresses came over to our table and brought with them a piece of cannoli pie and a slice of tiramisu with “HBD 93” written and decorated in chocolate sauce on the plate. They all then began to sing Happy Birthday to my father. I will never forget the look on my dad's face while they were singing Happy Birthday to him. He smiled from ear to ear. That small gesture brought overwhelming joy that was priceless to all of us. As if this wasn’t enough, there was one last act of kindness that blew us away. As we were ready to pay the bill, and handed the waitress our credit card, she told us that the entire bill was covered! We didn't understand, but they explained that the owner was grateful that we chose their restaurant to celebrate my dad's birthday, so they absorbed the entire cost of our meal! We never expected that and we were all overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of Frank Pepe’s in Stamford. We will continue to share this story and we will definitely be back to this restaurant. Thank you to everyone at Frank Pepe’s who made this experience so wonderful, extraordinary and exceptional for me and my family. It truly...
Read moreWas really excited to try out Pepe’s as it’s one of my favorite pizza places. I placed a pick-up order for a small clam pizza and a medium onions, peppers and mushroom pizza. Was told the wait would be an hour and a half, but I didn’t mind as I thought it would be worth the wait….but it wasn’t, it was super disappointing. First, I arrived at the pick-up counter at 7:30pm, which was the time I was told the pizzas would be ready. The girl working told me it would be about 10 more minutes more for my order to be ready. I stood around waiting for over 10 minutes watching the pizzas being made wondering when mine was going to be ready, when about 12 minutes into waiting around, another worker who was folding pizza boxes comes up and again asks my name for the order. She goes to the shelf where the already boxed and ready pizzas are and pulls my two pizzas off the shelf. So I spent over 10 minutes waiting for pizzas that were already ready and boxed before I even arrived. Regardless, I’m still excited to go home and eat the pizzas but man they were so disappointing, especially for paying over $50 for one small and one medium sized pizzas. The pizza doesn’t even compare to the original New Haven location. Both pizzas were super chewy and didn’t have that nice thin crunch to them that you expect when eating a Pepe’s pizza. The clams on the clam pizza were not even spread out evenly, so some slices had no clams and some slices had a heaping amount. In addition, the clams were so chewy I couldn’t even bite through them. The onions, peppers, and mushroom pizza was a little better but just didn’t taste like you expect Pepe’s to taste. The sauce seemed different, the crust was chewy, the burnt on the crust didn’t taste the same, and overall the pizza’s was super bland and lacked that flavor you expect when you’re getting a Pepe’s pizza. Usually, I could eat a whole Pepe’s pizza to myself but this time around, I was forcing myself to finish even one slice....

Upon entering, one is immediately struck by the warm, welcoming ambiance, accentuated by the attentive and knowledgeable staff who elevate the dining experience to one of genuine hospitality.
The pièce de résistance, however, is undeniably the pizza. Frank Pepe's tomato sauce stands as a testament to purity and perfection, offering a symphony of flavors that balance sweetness and acidity with the ripe essence of fresh tomatoes. This sauce is the soul of their pizza, and it is nothing short of extraordinary. Equally impressive is the cheese, which boasts a creamy, indulgent richness that marries perfectly with the sauce. The cheese is clearly of the highest quality, melting flawlessly to create a luscious, gooey layer that enhances every mouthful. The dough, a cornerstone of any great pizza, is where Frank Pepe truly excels. It achieves an ideal harmony between a crisp, slightly coal-charred exterior and a soft, airy interior as if it were the cousin of the Focaccia. Each bite offers a delightful contrast in textures, a testament to the expertise and tradition behind every pizza crafted here.
