Cafe is my favorite bar in State College because I love the location, the patio, the food/drinks, and the atmosphere. Absolutely check out the daily specials. On Fridays, skillet fries go on special from 6-8 PM, and they're a local favorite. I also highly recommend the Buffalo chicken dip (dollar off on Fridays as well). My go-to meal are the chicken tenders, which you can also get saucy.
The most popular drink is the Cafe Tea. It's a long Island iced tea that comes in several specialty flavors. Recently they have also begun to serve them frozen, which I highly recommend. There is a new skinny tea on the menu, which I think is delicious, and my other favorite is the Original. Most people love the strawberry and the Miami Beach. Certain days and times, beers go on special. Order beer pitchers during happy hour.
Historically, the bouncers have not been the friendliest, but the waitstaff are super. Of course, when they are busy the waits can be long, but it never bothered me when I was spending and evening. Also, cover usually starts around 9 on nights where there will be live music.
If you're a senior at Penn State, they host an event called '55 Days' where every day between spring break and graduation you have to go to Cafe and buy something. After graduation, they cap of the event with a huge party on the back terrace. We had a lot of fun spending our money every day at Cafe, but let's be honest, we would have been there most warm days in the...
Read more0/5 AWFUL MANAGER AND CHARGED FOR OTHER PEOPLES FOOD. Grabbed a table that had just cleared out with a bigger group of 8 friends. Ordered food expecting the check at the end of the meal. Did not see the server for over an hour before having to stand up and grab him. Was charged for over $20 worth of food that was not ours and must of been the people before that never closed out their tab. Spoke the manager Jim HIbbert who was extremely rude, unprofessional, and demeaning. Tried to explain that we absolutely did not put our card down before ordering and that part of the food on our table was never ordered nor delivered (again was definitely from the group at the table prior) He told me I was lying and to “dispute the charges on my card and have a good night” and then walked away after yelling at me and speaking down to me. Left the restaurant disgusted and distraught. That interaction is something I will never forget and that manager was absolutely awful. No professionalism and on an obvious power trip in a college town. Will never...
Read moreAwful experience from start to finish! I don't recommend going to this place!
We asked the bouncer if there was a happy hour since there was a cover fee, and he said, "yes." I go inside and ask the bartender for a happy hour item, and guess what? He says there's no happy hour today. That was frustrating and misleading.
Moving on, we ordered drinks, which took forever to arrive. When they finally did, they were mediocre at best. Then we ordered onion rings, and they were basically burnt. They tasted terrible, like they had been sitting in old oil for too long.
The service was incredibly slow, and the staff seemed disinterested in providing a good experience. The overall atmosphere was disappointing as well; it felt more like a poorly managed dive bar than a lively café.
Cafe210 really needs to step up their game to stay relevant in the State College area. Better communication, faster service, and higher quality food are essential. Right now, it’s just not worth the...
